It was age, I think.
Age, and poor health, as most creatures, people and dogs alike, get ill. He had poor hips (common with large dogs), poor teeth (no longer able to eat solid foods), he was blind (you can see he had a bad case of cataracts), and we think he may have had some form of dementia or psychosis. He eventually had many issues freaking out without anything happening, and barking at nothing.
He was suffering, and it was better to have him put down. My home is mostly hardwood, he kept falling and he couldn't get up. One day he didn't even want a mushed up hotdog, we knew it was time.
It's been a couple of years now, and I still miss him. We ended up adopting another dog from our shelter =3 We still talk about my Rocky even today, haha. It's amazing how much a dog can mean to people, you know? We spent a lot of time looking at dogs, and it was sooo hard to get one, since we kept expecting another dog to be just like Rocky, big mistake. We ended up going for another Siberian Husky, because my Rocky was half Husky, and he had the stubbornness and Houdini-like traits of them, not to mention the talking!
I'm sorry about your loss. Cats can be amazing, but at least they're not in pain. I think it'd hurt more to see your friend suffering just so you can see them for a few more moments. You'll see that they'll still mean just as much to you when you're gone, and you'll always still think about them. If you're planning to get another cat, or pet, I hope you have good luck in finding one, animal shelters have some amazingly cute kittens around Spring time =3

:cuddles: I know what you mean. You never truly get over them, but I wish you luck and he's probably in doggy heaven now eating all the treats and foods he can get his paws on. ^^

^_^ Yeah I hope so, I was really down earlier, but now I'm happy he's gone, not to be cold hearted, but he had cancer, and an ear infection, he couldn't chew his food, and he couldn't hold down his meals, so he was in a lot of pain. He's being his stupid self somewhere XD
