Actually, this is pretty close to how he was portrayed in the movie - John Milius actually had Arnold lose a good chunk of weight because, post Mr Universe-or-whatever-it-was, he was just too massively cumbersome to convincingly wield a sword ...

This is great. I love the life that you gave to his pose. He looks like he's posing for the camera, my animated folks always look stiff...

try drawing the pose you have in your mind wit ha stick figure first.... if your stick figure looks like it has balance and flow.. you can then start to fill out the frame with your details and do clean up later!
Hope that helps !

hey man great stuff love the art. my only thing is the sword doesn't read as conan its more ninja style rather than medieval barbarian style. I would play around with that bit a little try a broad sword or 2 edged battle axe. Still the art kicks major ass rock on carlo!

Nice work as usual, Carlo! Even if we were to go by Kuewa's argument of Conan being at his best with no exact past to visualize, it still works. The reason is that the artist has complete freedom to visualize the past version, with no set canon to restrict his/her ideas. Most of us visualize Conan as the older, grizzled throat-cutting barbarian. I gotta admit, as old-school as I am, I like the idea of a younger Cimmerian, with slightly less experience, but the same meanness and guts...

I would also definitely recommend the DarkHorse conan trade paperbacks.. especially with Cary Nord's art.
I felt he brought it back to mainstream really well and still kept to the classic mythos of Conan !
