There should be a test to see if someone should be a parent, then this wouldn't happen

I agree firmly, unfortunately people can fake long enough to pass a test. I hate it, but it's true.

Why would they want to do that? Why would anyone want to have kids just to hurt them?

I don't know, I've asked that question myself...

Maybe there's some other reason

Many abusers were abused themselves as kids, they never learned love, or how to love. It's the way they were treated, so they in turn do the same for their kids.

Wouldn't they want to try to give their kids what they didn't have, love? Wouldn't they know that other people don't do what has been done to them, and would want their kids to have a better life?

Not all of them. I remember my mom telling me about these kids that were next door to her, their mom would leave them outside all night without food or water if they did anything that she saw in her eyes as wrong. One time she said the mom even put them on a rope, and my nan went out and untied them to bring them to their house. They called child services numerous times, and no one ever came out to help. And those kids weren't the only ones, there were a lot of people who did that around where they lived, and it's so sad to think about. She also told me they were scared to go into the house in case they got mud on the carpet, and how shocked they were when they found out Nan never hit any of her kids when they got in trouble. They both thought that was how it was for everyone. It's so sad that this stuff happens, and you would think that it would be different now than almost forty years ago, but for so many it's not. They just do it quieter...

How can someone treat think that punishing kids to extremes will result in good behavior? All it does is frighten them into not doing it

Sadly enough, it worked. The kids were too scared to do anything. They said they flinched at the slightest touch. I may not have been there, but it breaks my heart just thinking about it...

There's a movie that might interest you, it's called 3 Idiots. It's about how the education system is burdening kids and it has many things that make you think deeply. Our conversation reminds me of a dialog:
"Out of the fear of the whip, even a lion will learn to jump onto a chair. But that lion is called well trained, not well educated"
It's the same thing here. They were not told what they did wrong or why it's wrong, they were just told not to do it or face a punishment

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. If you're interested in that movie, look for an English one or one with English subtitles. And just close your eyes during the ending of aal iz well unless you want nightmares
