So the results are in, Redemption of a Soul II has a lot of Cliches, but than again, most RPGs do, and Cliches aren't really a terrible thing, as long as they aren't utilized in groan inducing ways, or lame ways. The idea of cliches is to get a reaction from the player, either good or bad.

Anyway, this is for Redemption of a Soul II, the RPG Maker VX Ace game, though I haven't worked on it in a long time, since it's currently on hold; don't think I have done nothing for it. I have the plot planned out among other things, and I do have designed plans for it.

Anyway, here is a rundown of the cliche, and where or if it is applied to the Mystoria Saga.

=====

Cliche 1: Used - I say No, but you only let me go if I say Yes.
Meaning: A Cliche in RPGs where the player is given the illusion of choice, but the game only proceeds if you select one option. If you select the incorrect option; the game will loop the dialogue until you say the correct option.
Usage: This is sort of an RPG gag now, so naturally it will be utilized as sort of a joke.

Cliche 2: Used - Your hometown is burned down.
Meaning: The place the hero is from is destroyed early on, or before the game begins.
Usage: Early on, the family home of Ryder, Myuna and Kyra is destroyed, but alongside that; most of Mystoria ends up damaged.

Cliche 3: Not Used - Whiny Emo Hero
Meaning: The main hero often broods over his past, doesn't like to interact with others, and spends most of his time crying over something he failed to do.
Usage: The main hero, Kyra is the complete opposite of this; she is bubbly, kind and energetic; always excited to meet new people. If you wanted to apply this to a Mystoria Hero, the closest to Emo quality would probably be Ryder, but even he has a defined personality.

Cliche 4: Used - Morality
Meaning: Decisions that affect the outcome based around Good Choices or Evil Choices. Sometimes affects events later in the game.
Usage: An idea I have planned involves character Morality; since there are a lot of characters; I wanted to have interaction with each other to actually have effects. In some scenarios; characters may leave the party, betray you, or stick by your side the entire game based on decisions made. I hope I can manage to make this work effectively.

Cliche 5: Not Used - Mute Hero
Meaning: Despite being the hero, and primary character; the Hero never actually speaks. Usually the party speaks in his place.
Usage: This would completely ruin the unique personas that each character in the Mystoria Saga has if the characters randomly don't speak when being used.

Cliche 6: Used - I want to rule over all!
Meaning: Someone (usually the Villain) wishes to take over the world! OF COURSE!
Usage: This can be applied to some of the villains in the Mystoria Saga; but not others. Without spoilers however, I cannot say who this may apply too.

Cliche 7: Used - Avenge your dead Relatives.
Meaning: The hero's parents are dead, so their journey is to find the killer and get revenge.
Usage: This can be applied to every main hero in the saga (Nikolai, Aurora, Ciel, Gavin, Ryder) and especially Kyra early on; although this can also be seen as a deconstructed version (SPOILERS).

Cliche 8: Used - Accidental Sexual Innuendo
Meaning: A sentence of dialogue spoken can be taken as dirty dialogue out of context.
Usage: Almost unavoidable at times, it will likely happen at some point or another.

Cliche 9: Used - Can we really change the World?
Meaning: Characters are met with a situation where they need to accomplish great things for the good of the world.
Usage: Villain example; Ophelia's plan involves bringing Faustin back so they can change the world as a family. This can technically be applied to Luminia as well.

Cliche 10: Used - I didn't want to be a Hero.
Meaning: Under stress, the hero claims that they never desired to be a hero, and usually ask why it couldn't have been someone else.
Usage: Ryder will have a moment fairly late in the story, but he will recover from it with the aid of his friends.

Cliche 11: Used - Combat is more simple than the tutorial explains.
Meaning: Tutorials explain the combat as something complicated, but in reality it's very basic.
Usage: Being an RPG Maker game with minor changes to the engine itself (may change over time), the combat will be very generic, however since it is pokemon based, explaining will require much more information.

Cliche 12: Used - Go on without me!
Meaning: A Character abandons the party in order to allow them to escape, usually said character will die, become evil or otherwise not show up again for a long time.
Usage: With the morality concept, it may happen from time to time; however this will happen with Ryder, Myuna and Gavin; regardless of morality at certain points.

Cliche 13: Used - Magic Plot Sword
Meaning: A Magical sword related to the world that is required to continue the flow of the game. Usually it is the only weapon that can kill the villain.
Usage: Villain example; the Ama Katana is required in order to revive Faustin, however the villains have no idea where the blade is; and are searching for it. The Ama Katana was originally known as the Mystorian Blade; which does count towards this.

Cliche 14: Not Used - I want to be a God!
Meaning: Someone (usually a villain) uses the heroes to further their goal to become a god among men.
Usage: No character in the Mystoria Saga really desires to ascend beyond what the are. The closest to this is Torquil, but he mainly wants dominion, not power. Technically Faustin may count, since he is considered a God among pokemon, but it's a self made title that he cares little for.

Cliche 15: Not Used - I have a past that makes me Emo.
Meaning: The hero is tormented by something in his past, which makes him far removed from the rest of the cast.
Usage: While some of the characters have a tragic past, none of them let it hold them back. If any, they use it to fuel their goals further, rather than crying about it.

Cliche 16: Not Used - Bad Voice Acting
Meaning: Characters have terrible voiceacting that is either hilariously off, or ridiculous sounding.
Usage: While I do long to add voice acting to the game, if it ends up being too ridiculous, it maybe easier to just have text alone.

Cliche 17: Not Used - Red Shirt Syndrome
Meaning: A Character type where the character is introduced with a back story, only to die a few scenes later.
Usage: Usually in the Mystoria; if a character is named, they are important. Characters that remain unnamed are NPCs of little significance. Odds are, if the character is named, they have some significance.

Cliche 18: Not Used - Protective Armor Bikini
Meaning: Armor for female characters resembles a two piece Bikini, barely protective at all towards oncoming attacks, but works just as effective as full plate.
Usage: This is Pokemon related, and while there is armor, having armor of this caliber would make little to no sense anyway.

Cliche 19: Used - The Boss Battle you can't win.
Meaning: A Boss encountered at some point in the game, in which there is no possible way you can be victorious. Usually these bosses are ridiculously powerful, have unlimited HP, or are event fights where you have no control.
Usage: Character battles will likely play out this way.

Cliche 20: Not Used - I died at the Start.
Meaning: A character receives a quest where he appears to die, only to be revived by the person who gave him the quest.
Usage: This is a cliche used for certain scenarios only; and I felt that it wouldn't aid much for the storyline.

Cliche 21: Not Used - I rebel against the Empire
Meaning: Rebel Alliance vs Imperial Empire scenario. Usually the hero is the Rebels and the Villain is the Empire.
Usage: Though it applied to Darkness Rising, the war scenario has long time since died down.

Cliche 22: Used - Revive the Hero.
Meaning: An ancient hero is brought back from the dead to either help save the world, or for advice that is needed from the past.
Usage: Plot relevant for both heroes and villains. Ophelia's plan revolves around reviving Nikolai, so she can revive Faustin. Problem is, in her efforts to revive Nikolai, she also triggers events reviving many other characters. Naturally, both Heroes and Villains from the past.

Cliche 23: Not Used - Are you a Boy or a Girl?
Meaning: Choosing your gender at the start, most times Gender will play minor roles in the story.
Usage: Characters in the Mystoria Saga have set personalities and characters; meaning they are set in their roles already.

Cliche 24: Used - Hidden Endgame Dungeon
Meaning: A bonus dungeon found after or before you clear the final dungeon. Will usually contain much stronger monsters than the final dungeon, and will also contain weapons and items of high quality. Usually followed by a super powerful bonus boss.
Usage: RPG staple, this is planned to be present.

Cliche 25: Used - What's a Shield?
Meaning: Shields barely play a role, whatsoever; even for people wielding one handed weapons and could wield a shield; but choose not too.
Usage: Shields act as generic body armor, improving defense; but do not stop attacks. Played straight with characters that Dual Wield, as well as Ryder; who wields a knife but not a shield.

=====

So yeah, it's cliche in many aspects. I actually got two bingos out of it, and whether or not that's good or bad depends on user usage and how people look at tropes and cliches. They may be overused, but some are near unavoidable. They are the little things we let past because they exist to be in these situations.

Cliches 6 and 14 literally describe why the villan in a story I'm thinking about making (or possibly even a game which would purposly include one glitch as the boss of a bonus dungeon for a ??? prize) did what he did, wanted to become omnipotent god of the world and rule it, and now the hero is trying to reclame those powers from him, starting with the 17 elemental plates of light he scattered across the planet. Arceus will wish he never messed with Rena the Mew!

Ypu get extra points for OF COURSE! Also, Protective Armor Bikini is what I call female armor that looks barely protective. Also CLiche 20 usually ends up with the hero being revived just after by someone who sends em on a quest. Cliche 25 is a response to games with normal europeon sword users with no shield at all despite the fact the weapon can be used with a shield.

And I started a meme? O.o

Oh, okay. I was trying my hardest to describe them, I recognized most of the tropes and cliches, not others; but I am glad that you went through to correct ones that I didn't recognize. I will fix the descriptions of those as soon as possible.

I can see this becoming a Meme, at least for RPG Maker games and creators. ^^

Precisely. I quite enjoyed this meme. I still can't believe I got 2 bingos. Than again, I guess that happens when you create something that is highly influenced by things you enjoy. It's something we pick up on; especially if you regulate TVtropes XD

Innocent Fanservice Girl? lol

I much prefer this trope; tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

In fact, I went out of my way to use it in the Mystoria Saga. Most all the royals get directly involved in the fight at some point or another.

Well... on this RP an innocent-fanservice-girl/nudist has taken a liking to Ivan which is causing Ivan to be an even faster runner.
