Description
(Three Weeks Later)
(Russia, The Moscow Vault. 2:30 AM. Security is doing their 5 minute interval around the vault, known across criminal circles as one of the most impossible vaults to break into across the world. It all changes tonight.)
The security guards walked across the hallways, there were no windows, all oxygen came into the vault from several secure oxygen pipes on the surface, too small to use as an entrance but enough to supply the few men who are allowed entrance enough oxygen to breathe freely. The Treasures in the Vault were valuable (Of course!) but no one actually knew what really was in there or exactly how valuable it was, but the vault hasn’t been opened in years, so no one would ever know, (Until tonight that is!)
“Odin? Can you read me? Odin?” Dva did his hourly check of the mic security and system as part of protocol, it didn't seem like it would be an exciting night, they had worked for almost 10-20 years on the Vault Security Team but nothing had come of it, to them it seemed like everyone else got the more exciting jobs, but they got paid a hefty amount of ruble so they shut the fuck up. Dva had already done his rounds and it was Odin’s turn this time around so he didn’t think there would be anything wrong with taking a little nap in the middle of his shift, catching some sleep and waking up to finish the rest of the night! What could happen in an hour or two? So Dva relaxed himself on his office chair observing the cameras and closed his eyes to sleep. *Sirens are blaring and Dva is awoken from his nap* “W-what’s happening? This some shitty drill or something?” Dva went on the cameras as usual on said drill and checked the feed, completely relaxed and not concerned, just rushing to get back to his nap or to check the time. It didn’t take long for him to start running in the direction of the vault after a quick scroll through the feed. Dva crashed into corners with how fast he was running, holding only a pistol having forgotten to get an assault rifle or any of the weapons given to them. The Vault Door, he’d seen it thousands of times as he walked across the hallway in front of it, but he'd never imagine or seen it just blasted open and on the floor. He ran to the vault gate and reached for Odin, he was caught under the vault gate and couldn't get out. "ODIN!!! ODIN OH GOD PLEASE BE OKAY, DON’T WORRY YOU'LL GET HELP! YOU'LL SEE WELSHA AGAIN!" Dva focused and put his everything into lifting the gate enough for Odin to get out but it was no good, the weight of the ground above them was looming and there was still the chance the whole vault would blow up as one of the emergency responses that was put in to defend the vault and what was inside. Odin reached for Dva and told him sternly "Look Dva, don't worry about me, when help arrives I'll be fine! Go and stop the intruders!" Odin's words assured Dva and he nodded, hurrying up to stop the intruders and leaving Odin to the reinforcements and medical once they arrived. Dva hopped over the smashed hole where the vault used to be and walked right in. There was fire, it wasn't big but small fires had started and a tunnel was visible at the end of the vault that lead straight above ground, It was difficult to see through the smoke but it was clear that there was someone there, they had a crown on their head and had taken all the jewelry in the vault, Without hesitation but completely afraid, he shot at the figure hitting it 12 times square to the head and chest until he ran out of ammo. The Figure seemingly didn’t move but before he could react the bullets he just shot at the figure were at his feet one by one, he could hear a voice count as the bullets landed. “One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight...Nine...Ten...Eleven…”
Dva was shaking, how in the hell did they do that?!? But he did notice something, he shot twelve bullets...where was the last one-
*Bang*
The bullet goes through his shoulder and bounces off the wall behind him. Dva screams in pain and falls on the ground, dropping his gun and attempting to cover the hole and null the bleeding with his other hand. A laugh could be heard as the shadow walked to him, he was losing a lot of blood and was preparing himself for what he thought would be his death but instead a red beam hit his arm and all he could feel was agony, his vision tunneled and he felt like he was going to pass out, but he saw his bleeding had stopped and the voice taunted him more before he saw it fly off into the the tunnel and through the night sky, it’s big ears and cape flashing before it heads off millions of rubles richer. He heard voices coming from the rescue team and reinforcements as he lost consciousness, the ceiling was starting to show cracks, he noticed and felt how it shaked and how it was losing structure, he wanted to shout out how the ceiling was collapsing, how it was starting to breakdown and could fall at any minute but it was too late, he was losing consciousness and couldn’t speak, just dream of what had happened and what could have been.
Rouge loved the night sky, it was such a thrill to fly everywhere, to represent her freedom with just one thing, like how running could express bravery or fear, to run towards your problems or run away, flying expressed what she valued most in the world, her freedom. But the money, crown and jewelry meant quite a lot for her too. Rouge wanted to enjoy the flight more but she didn’t want to stay over Russian airspace for too long as to not alert them of her presence or cause any international disputes or rumors. In a few seconds she was at the base of where angel island once stood, a smaller mountain where ruins stood for the Once Great Echidna Tribe’s homeland. No one ever dared explore the ruins in fear for their lives and because of how difficult it was to get there, but Rouge had her...own way of getting there, using her super speed, she ran through all of the traps and defenses to reach a place she called her own, her own personal vault with all of the treasures she had stolen in just this past week. The room was massive, the size of three houses combined, and it was all for her treasure, most of it just recently being acquired, from Pirate Ships to tombs to even secret vaults! Rouge had taken as much treasure as her heart could have ever asked for, not even mentioning what she herself had stolen even before she had been granted these powers. Not even Eggman was safe as she had stolen blueprints, technology, and money. Two new costumes already added to her arsenal, something she did herself personally to add as much flair as she wanted, Rouge was loving her new life and powers, but as she stood, organizing some of her treasure, the sound of her communicator brought her back to reality as she still worked for GUN, with a sigh she grabbed her communicator, readjusted her super suit, and blasted off through the exit back to headquarters, not particularly excited to go to work and more looking forward to getting off work.
Thomas was pacing in the mission briefing room, Shadow sat on the chair, his shoes on the round table and eyes closed. If he was sleeping no one could tell, but it was safe to assume he was just resting his eyes. Omega stood still not really moving but the glow of his eyes showing he was watching Thomas pace around anxiously, he was writing down notes but he seemed more irritated than worried, a strange behavior from someone who really doesn’t often show emotion during a briefing and in front of the team but Omega knew about Rouge and her powers so he could compute his reasoning. “Does anyone know where the hell Rouge is?” Thomas turned around and looked at Shadow, he said it as he stood up, clearly annoyed and pissed off. “I’m sick of waiting, just tell me what the mission is and we’ll do it without her, She’s just-” The door slammed open and Rouge walked through, holding a tied up soldier, wearing camo and black, shaking and terrified as she drops him on the table and puts her hands on her waist in a power pose announcing, “..-She just took care of it, there’s your man as you wrote in the casefiles, you’re all dismissed now!” Rouge smiled with that confidence that could only be described as infuriating and arrogant. Omega turned towards Rouge and pointed a finger at her “This is the 6th time you’ve taken it upon yourself to complete our objective with no assistance or instruction, your arrogance has pushed my patience to the technical limit and should be corrected!” Omega walked towards Rouge but Shadow stood between them and shouted “Enough! We have another mission to take care of, so keep it together and let’s get going” Omega stood straight again and nodded “Affirmative, Rouge we shall continue AFTER our mission, but refrain from being so reckless” Omega and Shadow walked past Rouge but she simply rolled her eyes and blasted off to the location, taking Omega and Shadow with her.
*Elantra Village, a relative desert town that was only just a means to an end for The Eggman Empire’s attempts to slowly grow even more and get into the best position to take over bigger countries*
Rouge landed them directly in the middle of the battle, the military forces were attempting to fight back against the Eggman Empire and all that lead up to was guns, explosions and lives at risk. Omega looked around and marked the important targets to take down, of course the headquarters, robot repair stations, and- “Wait...Where is Rouge?” Shadow interrupts Omega as they look around and to their shock and anger, Rouge was just bashing away, destroying everything in sight as no robot could even TOUCH Rouge as her newfound strength and powers proved to be too much for them. If a stray bullet ever hit her, it just bounced off of her now invulnerable skin and costume, the soldiers seemed shocked as they saw this super bat take down bots with complete ease, Shadow and Omega now were in the crossfire and had no choice but to follow their lead and begin attacking the bots. It wasn’t tough for the trio but even the Eggbots could tell that they weren’t really doing anything to her and her companions were tough too, so their new plan? They launched all of their firepower at the three in the desperate attempt to take them down. Shadow teleported and moved around avoiding blasts and explosions, Omega used his shields to take the hits, not being as nimble as Shadow and Rouge, but Rouge wasn’t helping matters, she kept attacking with an array of punches and heat vision, even using her freeze breath for cover occasionally. Omega tried alerting Rouge for assistance as he noticed that both Shadow and Him were starting to take too much damage and couldn’t keep taking all of these explosions. “ROUGE! ROUGE WE NEED BACK-UP, GET US OUT OF HERE!” Omega called out but Rouge was too high up, she kept taking hits and laughing and laughing, she was drunk on her own power, she didn’t pay attention to her team, she didn’t CARE about her team, and that was about to take its toll. Shadow used Chaos Control to redirect one of the missiles heading toward Omega but failed to cover the one heading towards him. A missile hits him in the air and the explosion temporarily takes him out of commission as he falls towards the ground, landing with a thud. Omega turns as the Eggbots decide to open fire on Shadow, launching blasts and missiles at him to take him out for good. Rouge manages to turn her head at them as the missile is being launched at them, but Rouge couldn’t get there as the missile blasted towards Shadow, Rouge tried to fly towards them in an attempt to save him, but she wouldn’t make it. The explosion went off and Rouge yelled, in shock and horror at what had just happened, “SHADOW! OMEGA!...” The words rang through the cloud as it flew up.
Rouge used her super breath as she blew all of the smoke out to see what happened. Shadow was fine, his eyes were wide open and he was shocked, what scared him wasn’t the explosion, the thought of his death, or even the mission. Omega was destroyed, his metallic parts scattered and only a skeleton husk of what Omega looked like stood where he once did, Rouge was stunned, tears filled her eyes as the realization of what she did, of what had just happened hit her...It was her own fault, she caused this, all of it. Shadow closed his eyes and stayed on one knee, a last respect to him as his friend. Rouge fell on her knees and cried, she cried at the death of Omega and what she could have done to prevent it, None of the explosions mattered, she could hear them all bounce off of what remained of Omega’s shield, which he used to save Shadow as well as his own body, but it didn’t matter, her grief filled the bubble as she sat in shame, she had let her friend down, and they had paid the ultimate price, for her mistake, it might have been daytime but the team couldn’t have seen darker still.
