Description Part 6/6 of my trades with Labyrinth inspired Sarah x Riccardo picture. This was one I've had sitting for awhile and it doesn't look quite as grand as I initally wanted considering that Belli castle is exceptionally ornate a location but I hope at least some of that elegance shines through here. Obviously am quite fond of the pairing so I really hope you like milady

I am loving that red dress. The details you gave it are so pretty! ^^ And the red hair ornaments really set it off. I am also fond of the pretty white feathers in the background.

The bubbles are a nice touch, and I quite like the fairy lights in the hair too. I do think the patterning on the clothing adds something as opposed to when its just flat colour with shading, too. All textures have a patterning to them, even if its very slight.

This is missing some of the great profile curves in their faces that you have in some of your other drawings. I do really like those Victorian styled outfits though

I had drawn this probably about three months ago (as I did most of the lines which I've only just recently coloured. Because I really haven't wanted to colour anything.) but I had a look at this tutorial book that someone recommended and it's just really messed up how I draw. So am hoping with enough practice can get rid of it's influences.

Thank you milady as always

ABitMadInTheHead In reply to Shakahnna [2009-12-16 10:11:39 +0000 UTC]

How odd that a tutorial book would actually unimprove your work - must have been a very bad book. What was it if you don't mind my asking?
and since your lines are old I am sure that your newer works are much better then. I used to go back and try and re-do old works and it was always a disaster because I kept realizing more and more that was wrong and couldn't be fixed. I eventually knew better than to go back because it just didn't work anymore.

It was called Human Anatomy made amazingly easy by Christopher Hart. And while the anatomy side of things was... helpful enough. The part for faces has left me exceptionally frustrated. Like I sat through and did and redid the chapter for that. And now everyone looks terrible and I've no idea why. I've about fixed it now except that the foreheads always seem too long. Or the faces too flat. I think it's maybe because all of the stuff he does is very stylized and I am not looking to do that at all.

It's maybe cause I've had the flu for awhile too, like throws off your concentration but I'll see. I always get worried I've hit like my personal threshold. Like oh noes, I am never gonna improve. But that's just silly, it's all about understanding.

I hope so. I've not done anything I am really pleased with in a long time though. I think I understand what you mean though, it's very easy to over work a picture. Especially when a tablet is involved.

ABitMadInTheHead In reply to Shakahnna [2009-12-16 19:54:31 +0000 UTC]

I was gonna say that it is probably stylized! That can mess one up
Glad you have it just about sorted out though

And yeah, one can always improve if they keep on practicing I feel. I always thought that I would do a certain picture to hang in my room and I'd say "OK I'll never need to redo that one" but I've since learned that is NEVER true!

Horribly so though, all the men had huge massive jaws and he said the best way to draw womens faces was to leave detail out. THAT DOES NOT HELP ME. But yeah some time and can undo it.

Is always something that makes me giggle to imagine you thinking things I've thought. Like I look at how gorgeous your art is and have trouble imagine you feel that way. But think it just proves how right you are on the constant improvements.

ABitMadInTheHead In reply to Shakahnna [2009-12-16 21:23:05 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, the cliche of heavily defined male features and overly soft female features! I hate that. Because it's not always like that. Sometimes men can look softer and sometimes women have squared off jaws and then what?

Aww, well thank you for the compliment! And I have really come a far way and I'm still amazed at how I'm still improving. I can do things I didn't even know I could do sometimes. I still really need to improve on drawing without reference though - that is my weakness.
