Description I recently saw Love Never Dies in Copenhagen. This drawing is based on this photo from it, with Louise Fribo as Christine and a Phantom whose identity I'm not 100% certain of – either Bo Kristian Jensen or Tomas Ambt Kofod.

Say what you want of LND, but I recommend the Copenhagen production to absolutely everyone. If you can see it, go. Visually, it was the most beautiful musical I've ever seen, and the actors did such a good job I forgot how ridiculous a continuation to Phantom LND actually is. (It helped I only understood two Danish words per song.)

I love getting back to drawing after a break, even a relatively short one. Drawing this felt so nice.

Love Never Dies is not mine.

Beautiful!
I know LND doesn't have the best plot, there are in fact a lot of holes in the history, but it's a nice show. But of course, there is no way to compare it to The Phantom of The Opera. LND is my guilty pleasure. I do love the australian production, have you seen it?

Thanks!

I know that feeling, I think LND is becoming a bit of a guilty pleasure to me too... I've seen the DVD of the Australian production - it's so pretty! And the actors aren't half bad, either. Might watch that again soon, I guess...

I love Anna O'Byrne, she is fantastic!
The show has good points. I love Till I Hear You Sing, it's an amazing song and I cried a lot the first time I heard it, because I think that was exactly what Phantom would feel after years without Christine. There are other good songs aren't in the same level, but they are good, I like Look With Your Heart, Beauty Underneath, Devil Take The Hindmost, the title song and even Beneath a Moonless Sky.
But there a lot things I can't buy in the show. I can't imagine Phantom leaving after gotting what he wanted from Christine, or Phantom asking for Meg not to kill herself. Also I really hate the way the show made it seem that Christine only did not choose Phantom because of his face.

What are your dislikes?

Till I Hear You Sing is one of my favourites too, I loop it sometimes. It's very beautiful... And got to admit, Beneath a Moonless Sky is one of my favs too. The lyrics are silly, but the tune is pretty nice!

But yeah, valid points... Phantom telling Meg how she's beautiful inside to persuade her not to kill herself is the worst, in my opinion. I have difficulties believing Phantom would ever forget his own problems enough to say things like that. My biggest dislike is the whole last 15 minutes - it just seems so silly, and Christine dying takes forever...

However, I like to imagine Phantom and Raoul raised Gustave as two daddies after Christine dies. Fighting all the time and despising each other, maybe, but playing happy family for the sake of the boy. Phantom 3: The Son of the Phantom??

Loved your idea! You should draw it, it would be really funny. I laughed a lot at the idea of those two playing happy family. Can you imagine Gustave's birthday? Raoul and Phantom would probably fight to see who gives their son the best present. Another fun situation would be Gustave asking romantic advice and each father giving him a different take.

Despite its mistakes I love LND, but I would never choose that plot line for a Phantom sequel. I think it would have been nicer if the story was set during some days before Christine's wedding.

My big problem with the Finale was that they only killed Christine because since it is Phantom we can't have a happy ending. They didn't want a cliche thing, but there's nothing more cliche than killing one of the main characters in a musical! If they wanted a tragic death I think Phantom's death would fit better, than Christine could sing a really sad reprise of Music of The Night.

Your wish is my command: [link] - thanks for the funny idea! They're just coloured sketches, but still... Maybe I'll even draw another set some other day, maybe with the romantic advice that time...

So very true! I actually love that, Christine singing a sad reprise of MoTN, it's a great idea... Couldn't they gather a group of fans and leave them alone with the LND script for 15 minutes, then perform the tweaked version - ideas like yours would really make it better!

I'm so happy you did the drawing! I really hope you get to do another one, I always love your drawings, especially the Tanz Der Vampire ones.

And yes, they should have hired Phans to help with LND script, or at least revised it better. I really don't get why they didn't put some reprises of Phantom of The Opera songs, I think it was more than essencial to put Angel of Music in LND, the only reprises we have in the sequel are Twisted Everywhere and a horrible version of Little Lotte.

Doesn't the music box play Angel of Music when Christine picks it up, or am I wrong..?

It does! And it works wonderfully, but I wished she had actually sung Angel of Music, not before BAMS thcough. I just missed her calling him angel, but they probably wanted to show that Christine as mature woman that is not so dependent on the Phantom anymore.
Also, Erik sings Angel of Music after Christine disembarks, which I loved so much. And I really love after the Ten Long Years scene when we get to listen the melody of Phantom of The Opera title song convert to the melody of Love Never Dies title song.

Heh, I guess I have to listen to the cast recording a bit more carefully – I think there may be some things I've missed...

Actually, in the Original London Cast Recording doesn't have Ten Long Years and Phantom singing Angel of Music, because these songs were included after they made the changes.

The original show was really disappointing, I'm really glad they changed the plot a little bit and fixed some songs like Dear Old Friends, that was horrible in it's original lyrics. I just wished they had also changed or cut the Ah, Christine song, I really hate it, more than the ending.

Ah, yeah... It's been a while since I've listened to it. Too bad they haven't released another (legal) recording with the changes... And since I last saw the show in Danish, can't really say anything about the English lyrics!

And thanks! I feel it's good to do something a bit different every now and then, trying out different styles is sometimes fun.

Provided you know how to switch any connection to PotO off in your mind when you watch it, LND isn't all THAT bad, that's true. Regardless of the show, though, I really love this piece. The detail in the background and especially Christine's beautiful gown is breathtaking - was she wearing a dress like that in the show or did you make that up?

I love the Phantom's hands and the angle of Christine's head, and the fact that you added a hint of deformity around the mask too - very, very lovely.

Exactly. The same music and a similar-ish story combined with new characters, it could actually be good!

But thanks so much for your kind words! I had a good reference photo to work with... This is based on [link] - Christine's costume, in my version, isn't exactly like it was onstage... But the real costume was so gorgeous!
