Hm, I don't think it's a pain. I still pefer my oils over acrylics and water colors.
Just buy a small set of maybe 10 colors and play with them...

I use the weekends for painting. I enjoy the process, it helps me to relax. And what's better than to have a good reason to stare at this face for hours?
