Description I chose to depict one of the two Elefant tank destroyers that where the very last left in the battle of Berlin. They where taken out in Zossen which is a town south of Berlin i also added in a FW190 DORA in there as well. Pen and Ink. I hope you like it and please comment

I like your pen work, how it's all done in different directions and layers. I draw much the same myself. And you get your accuracy very close or spot on!

Amazing work there and yes they had a few Elephants in Berlin, wish there was a good documentary about that battle in great detail.

are the elefant and ferdinand 2 separate machines or did they alter the Ferdinand by adding the machine gun and cupola and change it's name to Elefant......bit confused

shank117 In reply to p40kittyhawk [2013-08-23 17:22:40 +0000 UTC]

they altered the ferdinand after kursk because the russians clamored all over the ferdinand because of the no machinegun thing and they added a commanders cupola for better sight

Yes it my be powerful but at Kursk they didn't put a machine gun on it, so all the Soviets had to do was walk up to it..... however you have done the bow machine gun Β later retrofit......btw what was the difference between the Ferdinand and the Elefant...??

Very nice work on all the detail though I wouldn't imagine the FW-190 would have been able to stop the red tide. Also it's very nice seeing you not making the mistake of calling it a Ferdinand Β

Ah the Elefant-didn't like all of the Elefants at Kursk end up powerless trying to go up a hill? Great drawing anyways-lots of different stuff going on. It looks like it probably bounced a shot on the front of the hull, off to the right side (while looking at it head on)? I like how you did that-makes it look like it has a little bit of depth/denting.

on the tigers yes but on the ferdinand and elefant they had to do it around the hatches

When all you have is two unreliable AFV's, it is time to hang it up!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shank117 In reply to MercenaryGraphics [2013-08-22 17:06:37 +0000 UTC]

still the thing had a massive about off armor if you could just sit it in one place it would be great good gun great armor but terrible engine that had a tendency to catch fire going up hill. But its still my favorite armored vehicle of all time because of the sheer amount of armor and killing power this thing possessedΒ

I find it interesting that when the Soviets , Brits or even Americans built gargantuan tanks that were too large to be viable, they written off as the absurd designs they are, but when the Third Riech fields a few dozen of overweight. unreliable monstrosities that can barley move themselves about, they are held up as very cool. If it cannot move, it ain't a tank, it's a bunker, even if it's German!

shank117 In reply to MercenaryGraphics [2013-08-23 04:03:08 +0000 UTC]

thats exactly why i like it because the germans where the only ones to field them and we get to see the results as they could take hits but move slowly but i just think the damn things are awesome im a sucker for it i guess but oh well

Even Gurdian considered it a flop. Just an over designed weapon system with the same success rate as as the Spanish Armada.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shank117 In reply to MercenaryGraphics [2013-08-23 17:19:51 +0000 UTC]

that was its flaw overly designed with a terrible engine i would love to see the results of a better engine in it one that didnt catch fire going up a hill

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MercenaryGraphics In reply to shank117 [2013-08-23 17:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Most AFV designers are happiest when their vehicles do not catch fire.
The Soviets had the same problem when they attempted the same power train design in the IS-6 ("Object 253").

BTW I forgot to mention i liked all the attention to detail on yer piece.

Very nice Shank, you have managed to capture the sheer bulk of the Elefant nicely, it looks solid., but whats going on with that 190, is he crop spraying or dropping Window (only kidding, damaged I assume)Β

mind you, I wouldn't mind crop spraying in a 190
