Tried to download the brushes and it said it isn't compatable? Is there a brush set that works with CS4 or higher?

Shapooda In reply to sugarpoultry [2014-11-13 06:11:38 +0000 UTC]
(I have CS6 and CS6 CC and it works with that, but no lower, from what I've heard)
Hmmmmm I've found that taking a good texture brush and turning on the texture and messing with the min diameter gets a similar effect (Like at work where they had CS4 and my brush set didn't work lol ). In real life I paint with flats, so it really suits my style and what I'm comfortable with. I think you seem to be more suited to a round, so my brush set might be uncomfortable for you, so don't feel too left out lol  I got the set from a concept art blog, this guy here www.shaddyconceptart.com/downl⦠Maybe he's got more, I really like his sets~

I actually just started using flats. Normally yes, I use rounds, but I'm getting used to it and experimenting a bit with them. I've only made a few custom brushes, and vary rarely do I ever mix up the brush settings. Half the time I don't know what I'm doing haha! I guess its just another skill I'll have to learn.Β
Thanks for the link! I'll check it out for sure! <3 I really love your current style, its come a long way!

I have a thing where I can only properly use rounds with acrylics XD Actually I don't use acrylic anymore cause the last time I did my teacher thought it was digital OTL so apparently there no use wasting the effort lol Brush settings aren't that bad once you connect them in your head to real life effects. Like spacing. I loathe that it starts at 5% lol Spacing is only good on a grungy brush, but on everything else it looks something dreadful. In other news, my pen jitter came back, so now I get the joys of reinstalling absolutely everything. yaaaayΒ
Awww thanks CX things are finally making sense. I absolutely adore your new HTTYD2 fanart! For the life of me I cannot focus to do real fanart lol Even though I wish I could.

Yah experimenting with brushes is hit or miss for me. And ugh, I hear ya. I just got a new tablet and already its balding and I get wiggly spots. >_> I don't think my tablet has replacement surfaces, either.Β
And you should definitely try fan art! In your style, I'd bet it'd be amazing!!

Up on LostandTaken he has a gallery tab in the top right. GO there under paper and it's near the end of the list, maybe around pg 20 or so? And np, it's not like it's a secret XD

Shapooda In reply to MissingLync [2012-11-05 10:29:54 +0000 UTC]
There could be a few reasons that's happening. Have you recently restored your computer? If so, you might have forgotten to reinstall your tablets driver software. If you lost the disk, they have a neat little list of them on their site where you can download it.
If that isn't the case, try unplugging it, plugging it back in, then configuring the settings under properties.
If none of these things work, the last thing I can think of is clicking the button on the far right, after you have the brush tool selected. [link] It just sounds like the computer is treating the pen like a mouse because it doesn't know to use the pen pressure.
Let me know if any of those things worked!

I don't have a bamboo tablet, so I can't know for sure what the problem might be, but if it's brand new and the drivers seem to be installed, then it's probably an issue with how your computer is interpreting the software and/or the settings are somehow messed up. Usually the instant you touch the pen to the tablet it starts up the driver software. I'd try a shout out in the forums for people with bamboo tablets to see if they've found a way to fix it D:
And no problem, I'll do my best to answer any more questions if you've got them C:

Is it easier using pen tilt rather than pen pressure? Is it like shading with a pencil on an angle, or what?
π: 0 β©: 1
Shapooda In reply to MorbidFool [2012-08-26 22:50:07 +0000 UTC]
Instead of just changing from a small circle to a bigger circle, it also changes to be sharper or broader depending on the angle. I've found that it makes it look a bit more traditional this way than just pen pressure C:

Nice little thing, it have been always hard for me to get the textures look natural over the paintings x) Even when I've been using those same blending modes. Well, maybe I can handle them some day.
By the way, this note in step 10: "This is similar to the effect "photo filter" - except to use photo filter on an entire picture it needs to be flattened"
But photo filter does affect the entire picture if used as an adjustment layer on top of the other layers?
Oh, and have you liked the darker background in CS6? I have mixed feelings, I will be buying it probably soon, but that background color doesn't look like a very great idea from Adobe. The point of the neutral grey background was to be neutral, so isn't that more or less disturbing background color to work with photos and paintings? :/
Well, at least it looks damn cool.
π: 0 β©: 1
Shapooda In reply to Tuonenkalla [2012-08-09 07:21:12 +0000 UTC]
I LOVE the darker background, because for me, light backgrounds have always given me a headache and the letters and icons vibrate (This might just be me). You can still take the background color and set it to neutral while you're working; that's the same.
Photo filter comment: true, my note isn't clear XD I forgot to mention that part. FFF-I'd make a note in the comments, but it's probably pointless unless I take screenshots. Ah well, it's a beginner tutorial XD They can do it the back alley way.

Every CS is basically identical. Almost everything is in exactly the same place. Everything I mention in this tutorial will work in everything from CS3 and up for sure. I know, I do it often lol

I think it has something to do with Autodesk and Adobe merging or something (???), because it works extremely similarly to Premiere and the new Maya when you try animating.
