funny fact about mantises, they dont actually have "pupils" they have compound eyes like other bugs, flies, ext. it's kinda hard to explain, but basically the things we see as "pupils" are actually the part of the eyes being used to adsorb the most light, correct me if im wrong, but the reason for it being black is because black absorbs sunlight better, like how a polar bear's skin is black or the feathers of a penguin.
