'The outdoors felt safe to her, they always felt safe. And a lot less confusing. But maybe this place wasn’t so bad. A tiny hamlet, hugged by the trees and mountains that she had referred to as ‘home’ for these last few weeks. It would be a good place to acclimatize to the ‘civilized world’ again.
Acclimatize… it was the same reason that Cey would always pick her hometown as the place to bring his unit after they were done with their missions. The little hamlet, west of Ebon-Ro, was isolated and tiny enough to let his people get used to ‘civilians and civilization’ again. “To shake off that feral side,” he once explained to her.
And he was right. Away from their families and friends, they transformed into the Phantoms that they were expected to be. And those were not the type of people you would invite at a birthday party where they were supposed to sit up straight, smile and be polite. If they were to take down the beasts, bandits, enemy troops and rogue marauders that could not be disposed of by regular troops; they would have to be equally feral, or preferably a little more, than their prey.
Her fingers followed her locks up to the roots, brushing the skin on the right side of her scalp. She had always worn it with pride, and now her survival depended on her ability to hide it from sight. It took a long time for her hair to grow long enough to cover it up again. The way she wore it now, no one would see it was still a lot shorter on that side.' ~ From Aronansa chapter 050

It is almost time to say goodbye to 2014 and welcome 2015. What would you like to tell to your former self, or to your future self? That was kind of the idea behind this image, and I love how it turned out. Which is a good thing because this illustration really put me to work and forced me to try out diffent options within Photoshop. No brushes used, everything from hair, to armor, to fabric to skin to textures is drawn by hand. Of course, the original file ended up so big I wasn't allowed to upload it without resizing it.
