Description

The snow fell like dust. It was December 6th, his darling Nicoleta's birthday. But Yule had no clue what he could offer the Christmas holiday, let alone his best friend. Unfortunately since her birth to the holiday world, he's been head over heels for her. She was the only one that warmed his cold body, and made his heart soar. But they had been such good friends that he spent centuries in silence, unable to profess his love to the woman he cherished above all else.
But since his twin, Solar, mated with Autumn and now had two young pups of their own, Yule found he was yearning for more. Wanting something beyond the awkward friendship he had. He loved her beyond anyone else. He endured Cris's unending torment just to spend a few minutes with her. Her smile lit his heart, her laugh was the music he longed to hear.
"Yule, are you going to Nico's birthday?" He turned as he saw his brother and his sister approached. Each carried one of their pups.
Solar carried their daughter, Summer, a wolf like her father. And Autumn carried their son, Rowan, a squirrel like she was. The first children born to Holiday Town.
He smiled and nodded, "Yes, I'm on my way there now."
"We'll go with you," Autumn laughed as she handed his nephew to him.
Rowan squealed in delight as he kissed his brow.

Together they went to Nicoleta's and Cris's house as many Holidays converged. For most, there was no point in counting the years, many were centuries, if not millenia old. But they were holidays afterall, and they lived to celebrate.
Cris greeted everyone with a smile until he spotted Yule, at which point he blocked the doorway with his body.
"You weren't invited," he stuck.his tongue out at the ancient holiday.
Yule growled as he fought to keep his composure.
"Out of the way, twerp," Solar snarled as Cris actually jumped.
"No way," Cris stuttered as Autumn stepped forward.
"Now you know Nico would be upset if Yule wasn't here," she smiled sweetly as she lightly touched his shoulder, leading him in.
Solar looked at yule. "He really doesn't like you near Nico."
Yule sighed. "No, no he doesn't."

As they entered, Yule smiled as he saw Nico. She was a ray of sunshine in the room as she laughed and partied with their friends.
Cris huffed noisily as he saw Yule move towards Nico, so before Autumn could stop him he stepped away from her. Then grabbing a tray of egg nog, and smiled devilishly as he went towards Yule.
"Hey Nico," Yule smiled as Nico turned. Her smile brightened even more when she saw him.
"Yule," she excitedly jumped in spot as she went to meet up with him.
But suddenly Cris purposefully tripped, and the tray flew from.his hands. Egg nog poured all over Yule, soaking him as he glared at Cris.
"Oh so sorry, Yule," he smiled mischievously, giggling. "I didn't see you there." Which was impossible, Yule and Solar were some of the tallest in the whole town. They were hard to miss.
"Sure. It's no problem," he growled. He wasn't going to make a scene. This was Nicoleta's special day and he was determined to not let Cris get to him.
"Oh dear," Nico ran to get a towel and brought it back to him, gently pat drying him.
She was so close, and his breath caught as he met her beautiful eyes. "Thank you, Nico."
She seemed to be as speechless as he, something Cris noticed.

"Hey Nico, why don't we do your presents?" He pushed himself between them.
Nicoleta smiled and nodded. "That's wonderful."
Yule actually cringed. He hadn't gotten anything for her yet. He couldn't find anything that seemed to suit her. In fact, he had spent so much time trying to find something that he ran out of time.
One by one the gifts were opened, and he stood over Nico, his heart soaring over the joy that danced in her eyes with each gift.
Suddenly Cris looked at him. "So where's your gift, Yule?"
"My gift?"
He began to turn pale, at least paler than usual.
"Yeah, for your best friend."
Nicoleta saw his discomfort and touched his hand. "Give me your gift later..."
"No!" Cris stomped like a huffing child. "He should show everyone what your best friend gave you."
"Cris..." Nico chided him.
"Well, where is it?"
Yule sighed as his ears fell. "I don't have one."
There were soft murmurs from the other holidays, as Nico seemed to be hurt by this.
"Not much a friend, Nico," Cris laughed, proud he one up'd the ancient.
Floored, angry and guilty, Yule didn't bother to fight. He deserved it. Nicoleta was precious to him and he couldn't find anything worthy of her. But he should of found something.
"I'm sorry, Nico, for spoiling your birthday." He choked as he turned on heel, and left the house into the blistering winds.

Tears fell as his heart broke. The disappointment in her eyes filled him with so much pain. He had hurt her, made her sad on her special day.
"I'm a horrible friend," he whimpered. Even worse still he had hurt the one he loved most. He wouldn't blame her if she never talked to him again.
"Yule!"
Surprised by the sweet melody of her voice, Yule turned.
"Yule, come back!" Nico called as she ran for him.
Joy beyond anything he knew filled his heart as he strode to her, and before he could think better of it. His emotions now controlling everything about his actions, he grasped her face and pulled her close to him. Then running on pure instinct, he captured her lips, moaning at the sweet cookie taste of her. His mind swam as he slowly pulled back, reluctantly.
He kept his eyes closed, afraid to see her reaction as he gave her the gift he had actually wanted to give. "Nico, I love you. I've loved you for centuries. I've should have told you centuries ago, but I've been afraid to lose you. But I can't hide it anymore. I do and always will love you."
