I used the 2nd one as a reference since it was the onlt full body picture I could find of Kagura XD
It took me aprox. 10 hours (2-midnight) to finish the gist of the dress and I just had to finish the facing later once I found time.
I did it last Friday when we had a Pro-day too so no lost school or anything.
And no patterns!!!
I'm so proud of myself ^^
I made the WHOLE thing.
Del really wanted to be Kagura so I was making it anyway ^^
Doesn't she look adorable?
She's gonna wear it to her tae-kwondo too ^^
That'll be amusing to watch XD
The dress is Flannelette and has a zipper in the back.
I don't know what else to say about it

Hi! First of all, very nice work. I admire you for being able to do it so well without a pattern.
Second of all, I recently decided to cosplay as Kagura. I'm going to make the costume by hand, and I was wondering if you could give me any tips? (Especially how many yards of material you think I might need...I have no idea. DX)

I measure fabric in metres being from Canada and all, but unless measurements fluctuate like the dollar than a yard is about the same correct?
My friend wasn't overly tall when we made the costume for her, but if I remember right, we bought a metre of white (1.09 yds)for the under sleeves, and green fabric we had... I believe 2-2.5 metres just since we didn't have a pattern. (so between 2.2 and 2.75 yds I think)
That was enough to give us extra puff for the sleeves, the top was faced inside, and a little less then a metre for the skirt on the bottom of the dress.
I really hope that helps in some way ^^' I'm pretty sure that's about how much we bought but I can't remember exactly, I probably should have written it down so I'm sorry if it's just confusing.
I wish you luck though ^^ I'd love to hear how your cosplay turns out.

I actually made her that costume without a pattern randomly fitting it on her as we went, and it wasn't too bad since they're pretty basic shapes.
I'd suggest getting a babydoll shirt/dress and tracing that for the pattern, it's pretty close ^^
I'm sure it'll look amazing once you're done.

No, actually.. I'm just getting into cosplay. x'D And I've only ever made two other outfits. Well helped make them.. my friend and I made two kimono in one night a couple of nights ago. And now we're gonna make one for my little sis. x3
But anyway.. I just went to my first anime convention about a week ago, and seeing all the pretty cosplay made me want to get my own. After buying my very first cosplay (which still hasn't come in yet...) I decided that I'd rather make my own from now on, 'cause it seems fun. x33

Oooh really!? Ok let me guess.... last week there was... Anime St. Louis,
Conbust, JAMPcon, Naruto Trek and Sakura-Con.
Your page says you're from Georgia.
So closest to you was either JAMP in Tennesse or Naruto Trek in Florida. Since Naruto Trek is also Startrek, and only really Naruto, I guess that it was either JAMP, a smaller one closer to where you are in Georgia, or Momo-con which happened a few weeks earlier in Atlanta.
So you'll have to tell me which one it actually was XD
It's tons of fun when you get to wear the costumes ^^ even if you didn't make it yourself so I'm sure you'll still have fun with that one when it comes.
Making them just has that feeling of how it's all your work in it though ^^ but in the end I'm sure you'll love cosplaying, it's tons of fun and you'll have great chances to meet some new friends who enjoy it too.
So I'm sure you'll definitely enjoy it ^^

'twas JAMPcon. x33 I hate the fact that most of the good anime cons are always too far away. Like..Anime Boston for instance.. it's my dream to go to Anime Boston one year. DDx But yeah.... there's a con in Atlanta in September, so me I'm glad I'll have at least one cosplay by then.. any hopefullly I'll finish my Kagura cosplay before then. x'D
Yeah~! At JAMPcon, even though we didn't have any cosplay (we just dressed up as a bunch of schoolgirls... x'D), we made some awesome friends. So I'll be glad when I can make more friends that also cosplay, so we can all cosplay together. x3

Anime Boston's supposed to be really good. One year I'm aiming for Otakon, Anime Boston, AX and Anime North, or at least one day eventually XD
And you were at one only one state away so that's not *too* awful for driving or anything. Especially with it being rather large, were it some teeny thing.... maybe not.
That's awesome ^^ I like that how even if you're not in a cosplay you'll still make friends with the people, it's a great enviroment for meeting new friends. If you guys get enough friends together you could start your own cosplay group or something

Well JAMPCon was in Chattanooga, and since we live close to the TN border, we didn't have to drive very far. But yeah.. I'm kinda hoping Chattanooga'll start having more cons..

Yeah.. we talked to her a lot that day... xD 'twas awesome~. Oh, and we made A LOT of friends at the shonen-ai panel. x'D;

I don't know about the other cons around here I attend Anime Evolution and they constantly have meetups, so really the only difference is we've got cosplayers walking around the city almost every weekend sometimes. (Which can also be a little much sometimes too XD )

As of March/April there's usually two every weekend up until the convention in August and some get pretty hyped where everyone goes XD Little bit much some days.
