Description My moogle stuffie.
I call her Molly.

I worked on it while we had a play running a few weeks ago, because it gave me something to do when I wasn't running around.
Mainly because I didn't have my computer for homework or anything so I was really sitting around for 3 hours each night.

I'm happy with her.
It's fleece and altered froma teddybear pattern I had (the ears are a little square), she's REALLY soft though.

I'm trying to makea moogle using a free pattern I found online. Problem is the pattern I used makes about a 5 inch moogle...I need this guy to be big like the one you made XD So the alterations aren't going so smoothly...

yours is so cuuute TwT What brand pattern thing did you use?

For this moogle I used a pattern I had from a few years ago that someone gave me. I don't think there was a brand attached to it and I can't really check right now for you... (I'm currently in Japan and the pattern is not so I sadly I can't.)

I've made one recently for my friend using the pattern from BabyLondonStar and I just resized it using my paintshop program so that the pieces were all bigger. So that might work for you too.

If you don't have something like paintshop it can be done in most typing programs as well by stretching the image.
But find a way to resize it by percentage where you can keep it constant for each piece (as you will need to break the image up to fit it on paper) and have at it.
I believe I preferred about 220% myself but that's my personal opinion.

Does that help at all?

That's exactly the pattern I'm using XD. It doesnt shape right though. I might be trying to be a perfectionist but when the cheeks fall down past the neck sumthins wrong O_O.

So you'd say following a plain old teddy bear pattern with alterations works the best?

Really? What fabric are you using? Cause if you use something with a bit of weight to it then stuff it, it shouldn't be too bad. At least when I used fleece it was ok.
And I could imagine that if you made it *too* big then his head's too heavy and it might start to do that.
(My first suggestion if it is too big, is make the cheeks smaller so they stop ABOVE the neck and give it a slimake the neck a little wider. You don't really see the neck in the end anyway, it's just for attaching.)

When I used the teddy bear pattern though it had a nose, so I had to make an entirely new piece for the front of te face whick was really just an oval with cheeks.
It depends on your pattern though because there's so many that you can find for bears out there and altering each one is so different.
Maybe even a ragdoll pattern could work, you'd just need to make the head a little more moogle shaped over person.

I tried finding a pattern but they were so expensive. I was like "Really? 14 bucks for a teddy bear pattern? @.@"

Well it's not that it fell past the cheeks like it was too big it was only reaching about 18 iches for the whole body, it's just for some reason the bottoms of the cheeks stuck out funny.

I was using...I wanna call it suede. It was really soft but fabric, mighta been something else but I jsut found it while rumaging through the remnants bin at Joanns O_O. Maybe I should try another fabric?

And how'd you attach the arms to it?

I have been trying to do plushie-ish things for awhile. But I have been having trouble. When you cut out material for the head, do you make a small bit at the bottom to attach it to the torso? =/

SheerBliss In reply to Sayoko900 [2009-07-03 01:02:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes.
I generally leave some seam allowance around all the pieces for when I'm sewing them to start, and then to attach them to other pieces, so that I can sew that distance in from the edges when attaching parts like head. Then it also stops the fabric from wearing out and making holes.

Another way you can do it is to leave a hole in the back of the torso and sew the neck togething from the inside, then flip it all right-side out using that hole you left.

Thanks for the tips. I am also having trouble with making my stitching invisible once the plushie fabric is turned right-side out. It always shows. Do you have any tips for how to hie the stitching?

SheerBliss In reply to Sayoko900 [2009-07-03 06:48:16 +0000 UTC]

No problem.
Are you hand sewing or using a machine while it's inside out?
Hand sewing then your stitches are possibly uneven and that's why you're seeing the ones that stick out a bit too far, or if you've been stuffing it then there might be too much in your space and it's pulling.

I can't for sure help without a picture of what it's doing exactly but I'd imagine that your stitches are possibly just uneven is the most likely reason. It happens to me fairly often. If so then just try to use smaller stitches and stay in a straight line.

I've actually been trying to make my own Moogle, ever since I saw the one the little girl has in the FF7 Advent Children movie. >> But it never comes out the way I'd hoped. >< This will be my third try, I believe.

Aww, yeah I loved how she had one in the movie. It was just too cute.
I'm sure you'll do great though. Just takes some practice sometimes. It'll be fabulous once it's done though I'm positive.

I wish you the best of luck

So, how did you get the wire into the head without it doing weird things?

And how on earth did you get it to stick to the PomPom in the first place?

It's adorable, by the way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SheerBliss In reply to The-music-of-hands [2009-04-23 05:12:58 +0000 UTC]

I made a bend in the wire like a hook to act like a knot when sewing thread, fed it through the pompom and it just sorta stays there on it's own. I added a little drop of glue afterwards though just so that the wire can't move past where it is.

Then, I took my wire to as long as I wanted and past that point I coiled it around a pencil. I pushed the end through the seam at the top of the head and fed it in like a screw. It just sits happily woven into the batting inside the head.

Did that answer your question?

I'm really glad you like it though ^^ It was lots of fun to make.

SheerBliss In reply to HanyouRaena [2007-11-07 04:34:21 +0000 UTC]

Aww thanks.
I'd TOTALLY make them since I'm strapped for cash... but I'd need to get more stuffing first ^^'

And I suppose set up a way to sell them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HanyouRaena In reply to SheerBliss [2007-11-07 05:02:45 +0000 UTC]

well if you would sell them, how much? i think i'd have to buy one. lol or if you have any others you could make. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SheerBliss In reply to HanyouRaena [2007-11-07 05:19:54 +0000 UTC]

If I sold them...
I'd have to calculate in how much the stuffing costs and how much is used for each one.

Then shipping and everything since I'd need boxes and stuff.

I'm never any good at pricing things ^^'
I'd probably ask someone else to come up with the number for me.

lol nice. but thats ok. when you find out let me know, cuz if its not too expensive then imma definately buy one. XD cuz the one you made is SO adorable!!! XD

SheerBliss In reply to HanyouRaena [2007-11-07 05:34:13 +0000 UTC]

Aww thanks ^^

I'll have to find a better way to buy pompoms then XD
The one I got was in a pack of 3 at the dollar store... only they were christmas colours so only one red one.

I've already got the fabric and everything so it's more finding out how much fill costs, and to send it and everything.
