Severus and Lily arguing - and Narcissa in the background, annoyed because of Severus but happy about the situation in general.
It's not exactly the setting of the relevant scenes, but we did our best to create the same atmosphere. Whenever I could manage to look halfway mad/annoyed - I remember I couldn't look at Sev and hold that expression, that sad face! ;_;

She didn't need to lose him if she didn't want to. Who knows what he would have done had she explicitly given him a choice between her and his housemates, instead of refusing to let him answer and saying "I don't care"? She was clearly not intending to keep his friendship no matter what he did. I agree that losing him must have hurt her, but the wound was entirely self-inflicted.
On the other hand, in my sympathetic moods I recognize that she was a sixteen-year-old girl in an awkward social situation: a best friend who had feelings for her that she didn't return. She's hardly the first teenager to handle such a thing badly. She must have been so relieved to be able to break their friendship on a point of principle and feel noble about it instead of having to say, "I'm sorry, Sev, I don't love you" and feel like scum.

Knowing as little as we do about their backstory (there's years and we've only got those few memories, bits and pieces, really) I won't go into... well, blaming one of them.
I don't quite agree with what you said, simply because I can sympathise with Lily more, but I think that's just it, it depends on whose pov one can relate to better.
