Description So this started out not as ponies, but the change was inevitable I guess. When we were driving back from the north east for vacation, there was one night when we couldn't find any hotels with vacancies, so we drove really late into the night. The full moon was getting pretty high up, and I watched it for a while (I was bored). I think we were in West Virginia, so the landscape was pretty cool. Then, I glanced up once more, and saw this EXACT cloud formation, the braid with the moon behind it. I have no idea how that would even happen, but I knew I had to draw it. I exaggerated the skyline a little, for artistic whatever, but the clouds are pretty much the real deal.

The ponies came into the equation when I was trying to figure out what to do for the moon's design. After several minutes I just gave up and went with the mare in the moon. After I finished I figured the piece could use something more, and some color. So, what better than Celestia? Color, contrast, and some depth to the meaning of the piece. Sweet. I decided to vector her so as to get more contrast with the airbrushed clouds, and I just like that simpler style.

So yeah, a lot of story behind this one, and I am extremely happy with the result. Hope you are as well! If you want a smaller resolution for a background (this will still work for 1080) just ask, I would be happy to do that from the TIFF file.

EDIT: I made a zoomed version of Cel and the moon, if you're interested:

This is a beautiful piece of art Could I use it as the cover art of a short story I wrote?
