Description The ICE3, an InterCityExpress trainset of the third generation, awaiting departure in Cologne Central station.

edited one of my pics with Adobe Lightroom, so I gave it a try as well. It wasn't all that great, but that might be because I'm never really satisifed with my editing, and usually completely refrain from it. You decide which one looks better.

You may or may not know that the ICE3 produces almost 11k hp just for propelling itself down the line, with a top speed of 330km/h (206mph). Now that's quite impressive, isn't it?

If it had wings, it might be able to

Come to think of it, I once used this tagline of flying as a title for an older photo, though the quality was miserable due to my old camera [link]

The reflection on the window is great and even love the dirt on the nose, it's a kind of macho designer stubble and adds RL crediblility.

Although he will have done a good job, I prefer your version above PixelE's. I feel that in your version there's more contrast between the train and the background.

Macho designer stubble, I couldn't have said it any better myself!

I do kinda realize what you mean about the contrast... Until now, I wasn't really sure which of the two I myself preferred, but like I said, editing images is not one of my strong points...

Editing is something you can learn on dA very well - it's not 'How do I do this or that?' that's difficult, but judging the results, and that's happening constantly.

I think what I already learned is that cropping can be more effective if one is willing to experiment more, or just cut away more of the image, like with "Railfan at Work". But with editing that involveds several steps of adjusting contrast, saturation, or exposure, it gets quite difficult for me to determine whether or not it really does look better, whether it's just my personal taste, or whether the edit is too obvious and wrecks the image.

206mph/330kph is something that currently the UK can only dream of. 11000hp though... power!

I think the only thing that can impress me more is the 103, which would have been able to achieve peak loads of above 16k hp, though they altered the main circuit breaker to limit the amperage it draws, as that might have damaged the power supply of the catenary. But one has to consider that that was an engine, while this is a train, that uses all that power for the sole purpose of powering itself

Indeed, there are fundemental differences at play. Yes in terms of raw power the 103 wins the day, but in terms of self propulsion and maybe raw speed, the ICE3 wins it, due to it's power being managed to drive powered axles across the unit, and delivering 10k worth of hp to reach 330kph, rather than the 103 having 16k hp just for the locomotive.

Jup

Though I find it way more drool-worthy to have that much power concentrated in one place, I think the 103 was considered THE best one could do with a classic single phase setup as opposed to multiphase AC. I bet if one would alter the gearing, one could leave even the ICE behind, there is that one unit with a top speed of 280km/h. Damn, the thought alone is awesome
