Words can't describe how happy I am with this photo!

Did a little bit of railfanning today, but to be honest, I was only aiming for two specific targets: The weekly 103-hauled InterCity from Cologne to Flensburg, and the (potentially) 110-hauled booster train from Cologne to Wesel. Went to a different photo spot to catch the 103, but there were a dozen other photographers, so that pic isn't really noteworthy. You can check it out in my DSO post, as usual.

But this one? God, it's epic! Tried a spot that I rarely use, as it's only good for this specific angle, and only in the afternoon, when the light is just right. I did manage to catch a 110 in front of this train yesterday, so my hopes of catching one today weren't very high. But then, another 110 appeared in the distance! And combined with the angle, the lighting, and the square crop, it's just magnificent! I'm rarely ever truly happy with my work, but this one is just how I wanted it to be. No landscape, no distractions, just a pure, towering locomotive, thundering towards you. I could stare at this for hours... But I guess uploading it to dA is a better idea, so here it is!

Hope y'all like it as much as I do, considering that 110s are dropping like flies atm...

Interestingly, 110 508 here is the third-youngest locomotive of this class, built in 1969, with 110 510 being the last 110 to leave the factory. If 43 years can be considered young that is.

Then again, there are surviving 110s that are from the 1950s and often still in service...

...so yeah, she's very young!
