Description As most of you will know, I really like class 110 engines, and it's getting tougher and tougher to spot one. This specimen came as a surprise for most railfans, as it wasn't scheduled to run on this line. The most probable cause would be one of the regular trains having technical problems etc., with this old 110 pulled (or in this case pushed) "Silberling" train having to substitute it. Shot at DΓΌsseldorf Central when we had two days worth of sunshine. I wanted to upload it for quite some time, but only got around to do it now.

Also, this is the same engine Torsten uploaded a pic of for my birthday, and I shot her as well once. She was built in 1966.

As for the title, the pantograph somehow felt much taller than what I'm used to, probably because the catenary hangs quite a bit lower in and near stations. These tracks seem to have higher ones due to the autorack train ramps being nearby, and having a low catenary wire isn't very practical for that. I don't think I've ever shot a 110 "in the wild", except for one that was just passing through under a bridge, where the catenary is also closer to the ground than on open track.

Indeed. Sometimes, I wish they'd stick to their old equipment for a little longer, but modern EMUs are demanded, so they will be out of work in the near future...

Personally I think older trains are very interesting, but in Poland old trains are untidy and uncomfortable. For many years PKP has problems with less funds, bad management, and big big corruption. Most of companies has great loss of money (only PKP Intercity has some incomes). Probably national company should be replaced by commercial firms...

Y'know - Slovak and maybe also Czech railvays suffer almost the same problems. We're all in this together, pal. ZSSK has great financial losses every year despite the fact a lot of people still use this transport quite often.

BTW PKP should have one electric engine (twin class ET40) made by Czech Ε koda. Ever seen it? They should wander somewhere around Gdansk.

There are positive and negative sides to privatisation, at least to my mind. When the Bundesbahn was still around, they made huge losses, but everything was kept in good shape, and they only worried about how to get people from A to B. Now, we have a huge multinational corporation that often cares more about the money than about passengers or their safety. There are countless examples of the DB saving money by not maintaining equipment or stations properly, which lead to the end of an entire locomotive class, or to dangerous situations when parts of a station's roof come down in a storm (wrote a journal about that when it happened). So far, I'm not impressed with the DB, but when compared to other countries, they do a very decent job.

Hmm... If I'd have to sum it up in one word: Shit.

Like the situation of the entire country...

I thought it'll be better.

I think we have common experiences with railway in our homelands...
