Personal work, 2018Based on a sketch I did while traveling in Europe, while very sleep-deprived, and listening to the music of Lucy Led Astray.

This reminds me of a character in one of my horror novels. The novel is called "The Nightmare"; the character is called Joseph Lazarus, an immortal impersonation of people's nightmares who enters their dreams to literally scare them to death. There, he is able to spread into an unkindness of ravens. He also lives his unending life in a body, and then he looks exactly like this! Great atmosphere!

I am so taken in with this piece. As somebody else said in their comment I love how the figure dances between being a tangible person and looking as though they might completely fade into the scenery if you were to come too close.
Makes me think of Loki. Especially with the halo made by what could be the world serpent.

Woah! I love the how you were able to digitally translate the effect you get in oils when you paint cool grays over a sepia underpainting. Definitely inspired me to try some traditional studies again!

OMG I love this so much!Β The use of the ouroboros like a halo is freaking genius!Β I saw this and immediately thought of the legend of Cartaphilus "the wandering Jew" cursed with immortality until Christ returns.Β That is probably not at all what you had in mind, but to me it fits like a glove.Β Amazing amazing piece.Β I love how he appears simultaneously solid and wraithlike, ephemeral but eternal, both part of and distinct from his surroundings, wraithlike and obdurate.Β It is just awesome.Β The monochromatic palette is PERFECT for this subject, but there is just enough hints of color to give it life.Β Gosh, I do not often geek out this much about a piece but for some reason, this one just feels really magnificently special.Β I can't stop staring!Β Okay, I'll shut up now.Β Β
