Russell Crowe as Inspector Javet from the new 2012 film: "Les Miserables".
I thought he was great. Loved his character and look. Singing.....eh. It had to grow on me with a few listens of the soundtrack before I saw he movie. I think the problem was I had other singers already in my mind (Terrence Mann, Norm Lewis, Philip Quast) ...and that is TOUGH competition. You just gotta clear your mind of that for a bit haha.
Though it's nowhere near as bad as most people are making it out to be. I'd say he's on par with Gerard Butler when he was in "Phantom Of The Opera" (same kind of singing style)

No matter how many people complain, I liked Russell Crowe as Javert really much. Maybe even - some really strange way - my favorite voice in this movie. No one said you actually have to ~sing~ to be in a musical (it gives such a nice touch to real life).

This is beautiful- and screw it man, I loved Russell Crowe in the film. And I like his singing too, especially after hearing the studio piano version of Stars that he released- it's rather lovely to listen to. Beautiful man ugh

I saw this picture on Google when I was searching for Javert references to draw from, and I'm so glad I've found the original. I love the way you've captured the textures in everything; the skin, the clothing, the hair. The background is a nice addition too. I don't know why there is so much criticism against Russell Crowe, his performance as Javert was the one that stood out for me in the movie and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen whenever he was on. There was something complex and different about his character that I didn't see in the others. But anyhow, excellent piece of work, must

Russel Crowe is a bit too big and gruff for Javert. In my opinion, that is. I palyed Javert once, and he is a very complex, fragile character, while Crowe is hardly able to do anything then one facial expression.

Hmm...I'd say his performance is more on the "subtle" side. It's the little things he does that make his Javert different than the Stage versions, but still pretty true to the character in a way.

Crowe was the first Javert I heard, and now I've listened to the other performances I thought he did a decent job, considering those are very hard acts to follow.
