Ah, another unintentional pretty.I was drawing a picture of random people, someone kissing someone else. But as I do with a lot of drawings, I saw something that made it change into something else. The nose I had drawn reminded me of Shikamaru's nose. So I really just erased the rest of the rest of the sketch and went from there.
I regret to say I got lazy at one point. His forehead is just a little too awesomely massive. But I liked how the rest of it looked so I left it that way. Since it didn't TOTALLY kill the image, I'm not too bummed, though I'm sure a lot of people will dock me for it. But no, the boy really DOES have a large head. He always has. o.o;;
I will also say I don't think his eye is in the RIGHT place. It looks a tad high... whatever. Enough complaints from me.
Now, this is of course from the scene which is unmentionable because it's a spoiler. This image itself is spoiler enough already. Let's just say it happened on chapter 328. *COUGH COUGH* Yeah, the title like, ISN'T hint enough. D:<
Now the rain looks like milk, and my friend pointed out it looks like... SOMETHING ELSE. I will clarify this for you; IT'S RAIN. WATER. MMKAY?
I'm poed because I drew it the "wrong way" again. I like his headband to face out. So it's visible. So I smacked myself twice. D:<
As for morbidly depressing art, no, I'm not sad. I just like to draw sad people. Passionate emotions make me all tingly inside. >w< <3

When Asuma died, he actually threw me into a somewhat chronic depression. A lot of depressing things were going on that time in my life, and Asuma was the last straw on the camel's back. I was happy Shikamaru cried, though. He bottles up a lot of emotions. Dumb kid. xD

He ran away from Temari when she critiqued his behavior and how he handled his emotions.
He gives people cold stares, not because it's funny, but because he doesn't feel good.
The boy hardly smiles. It takes arrogance or an occasional nervous laugh to get him to... only once in the whole manga do I recall him smiling with humour, but never with happiness have we ever seen him smile.
Solitude isn't all that healthy. Shikamaru spends many hours alone, and he sleeps a lot. Most people who sleep a lot are depressed, and are trying to escape.
I don't know... I just want to see the kid happy.

He's happy around Chouji, but you are right, the kid feels a lot of lonliness. Doesn't help with his mom being a battle axe or anything does it?

Shikamaru has "accepted" his problems. He thinks there's no way to fix them, so he figures he'll "loosen up" a little. Except he hasn't.
His face is always tense, his posture is closed inward, and he fidgets a lot...
His mom has never been all that close to him. Neither has his dad until recently. He practically didn't have a real family for a while, his dad just "rooting him on" instead of providing a father figure. I wouldn't be surprised if Shikamaru has a lot of abandonment issues.

But slowly, he's falling for a woman like his mother, though he may not want to. He searches for the simple life, but I guess he sees women as that and decides Temari is close enough to it to be normal. It is a unusual fact that we fall for the people like our parents, fathers for girls, mothers for boys.

Telling the story with me might not conjure... I'm not saying he's lost interest in Temari, but he's sworn to take care of Kurenai, and her unborn child. This sort of promise puts the rest of his life on hold for the time being...
As far as parent-loving, it is not all that uncommon. But such does not apply to me. My parents just... aren't my type. xD; My mom is very into spirits, souls... not religion, but spiritual tasks. My stepdad is a good friend, but an overall... angry person. I need someone with a calmer energy than that. My real dad to be honest has a lot of qualities I want in a guy, EXCEPT that he shares the same difficulties as me; serious migraines and anxiety issues. If I was with a guy like that, we'd suffer together on a regular basis...

I don't see that. He WANTS to be like Asuma, but that makes him naive. He really isn't a simple character. Everyone says he's a genius, yet he doesn't know who he really is. He strives to be someone he isn't, every corner he turns. Now that his companion has died, he strives to be more like him. But Shikamaru can't help it. He is very much like his father.
It is not good to share anxiety in a relationship.

Yeah, they really are alike in a lot of ways. It amazes me that they arn't all suicidal witht their confusion. Maybe now his fathers sees shikamaru changing, thats why he takes intrest in him... but hey what do I know?

They aren't depressed, and their situations aren't exactly the same. Shikaku is far better off, because he is in denial. Shikamaru is only in partial denial. They both see the "man" image. They don't realize than gender doesn't have a name. Shikamaru strives to be a "man" to protect people. He's pretty much given himself that title since he turned 15 (the coming of age in Japan), but even after all of his hard work, success, and growth, he still isn't close. His Intelligence Quotient is very high, but his Emotional Quotient is very low. His people smarts are very weak. Wearing a facade like he does isn't being a man; it's being a scared little boy...
Shikaku sees Shikamaru has grown up a little. But he knows that it is only the beginning. Shikamaru still makes more mistakes than anyone else. Most people don't see it. They think he makes no mistakes, and is a great success. But he's the exact opposite. His character is an enigma.
So many fans think they got him figured out. They say their in love with him. But they can't possibly love him if they don't understand him... He's not an easy person to understand.

Shikamaru would never fuck any of those Naruto OCs. Do you want to know why? Because he wouldn't fuck anyone. Otherwise, he already would have. His mind isn't on romance. His mind is on the target. He wants to be happy with himself before he starts worrying about being happy about girls. He's not dumb like most boys his age. Most boys thinks girls will make them happy. Shikamaru knows that in order for a girl to make him happy, he must first be happy with himself, because if he lost the girl and was unhappy with himself, he'd be devastated, but knowing he is confident in his own mind, losing some whiny little brat because she has problems with herself isn't going to affect him too badly because he knows (or will know) that most breakups are due to the breakuper, not that the relationship was bad, but that the person wasn't very smart, ready, attentive, or confident.
All these fans throw themselves into the Naruto world and have sick fantasies. You want to know how I'm "in" the Naruto world?
I RP characters that already exist. I usually put myself in Shikamaru's shoes. Because I don't want to be some typical anime girl in a skirt asking for his affection. I want to be what at the moment is most important to him.

I really like this one. The detail work is excellent; things like Shikamaru's earring and hairtie, a lot of people would forget.
The background is simple, which is good because it focuses attention on the foreground instead of on the background, and the dark gradient was a nice choice. It's definately better than no backdrop at all, whereas it would look like he's floating in outerspace. Dx
The mood also comes across very strong. This is a very good piece of art!

Actually, funny you mentioned those. I colored them the wrong colors on purpose. I wanted them to match. The earring is actually turquoise and the hair tie is a tan-ish color. But I like matching. <3
Accidentally, my background looks a lot like that in the manga. In the manga there was tone. But I couldn't see this in Jump Weekly (it actually looks as though they've added that when they put it in volume 36). So it's kind of neat.

I think that all of the Naruto characters spend oodles and oodles of money on hair cement. Several of them have ridiculously tall, spiky hair that never moves. Dx

Oh, that's definately possible. For characters like Shikamaru, you can avoid the cementing.
But if you're doing someone with outrageously spiky hair like Kakashi, it usually looks better if it's styled.
