Description
My entry for the contest.The fetal position represents the birth and how it's being exposed to both good and evil forces. At the same time, the naked man represents the freedom and the power everyone possesses to choose between these forces.
- graphite pencil on paper
- 30 x 42 cm
- about 30 hours
- the rays of light were inspired by smoke photography

Hi - I am making a film adapted from the book, "Strange Seed" by T.M. Wright. This illustration reflects the feeling tone and the aesthetic integrity of how I see the narrative becoming cinema. We are looking to work with an illustrator during the early conception of our characters -- the children in the film are born from the earth. Is this something you would be interested in working on?

at the first glance before i even opened the entry it seemed like he was dropping from heaven to the thorns of evil and pain on earth =/,,, may be i should draw it like that to bring MY vision to/about life
i guess we've already established it's very inspiring,,, i really like how the light is drawn, it almost hurts your eyes! beautiful!

this is really cool. i love the piece. one thing that i thought was interesting is that this piece could also be seen as an introduction to death piece. what i mean by this is: looking at the light, to me it almost seems as if it is receeding. the darkness is coming in. Absence of light, and the entering of darkness is the loosing of life and overall welcoming of death.....

it reminds me of a human spirit.
How though the spirit itself is a whole, memories and choices are an outside force that comes upon it.
The soul starts out blank and unmarked but as these outside forces come upon it it changes beneath it as if it were aging, just like we grow and change in our own lives.
