I totally shouldn't have just spent so much time on this, but it was a fun mess with layer adjustments and filters. (Now I wish the line art had been better.) Still, in case I can't push out any other pictures before New Years: Happy New Years! Have a slashy one.The brushes used on the background and on the rose are found under my favorites beneath 'Brushes'.

Texture? I just merged together the characters and the background and copied the merged layer. I then added the colored pencil filter to the top layer, set said layer to color burn, then opacified it down to 20%, and voila! You have your texture.
