Description DescriptionI got some really good feedback on my most recent deviation - the 2015 Charity Meme (thank you everyone for the wonderful compliments!). Because I spent a lot of time on each piece individually, I was encouraged by many to submit them separately.

I had originally saved some stand-alone images of these drawings but they were only slightly bigger than as seen in the meme. I figured that I am going to post these separately, I should make it worth it; so I'm posting them at the full, original, 100% size I worked with them at in Photoshop.

This is the third image I worked on - it's a gift for Ember-Eyes of her character named Dan. I hope you enjoy!

I like that neck angle, and those colors in such lighting look so soft, nice. Also the expression is fine, looks kinda surprised xD

He looks even more bad-ass up close and personal. Can I just say I Β love how you did everything? I especially love the skin folds and subtle muscle definition. And the whole thing has such a cool oils-on-canvas feel to it. Sometimes digital art just screams "I was done on a computer!!" but with this, if I was told it was traditional media done on an actual canvas, I think I'd believe it. Thanks so much again for this!! I set it up as my laptop's background and it looks AWESOME.

Ah thank you!! I'm really glad that you like him ;u; I was concerned this one may not have looked as organic as the others but I think the texture showed up the most here. <3! Take care!! I hope you downloaded it

I love doodling unique dragons like this but I never really do simply because...well, the horns on the side of the face. I keep thinking how will the muscles fit on the jaws and allow function if there's bony protrusions on the cheeks? Wouldn't wierd growths like that reduce jaw function? It makes the creature look awesome but my brain is just too literal and logical. Bums me out sometimes.

What I do like though is the color scheme. He looks fierce but also friendly. I also like the textures you used. I kept looking at it thinking this is an oil painting! The edging and the brush strokes and that remind me of that texture. I remember watching my grandmother paint a lot. Her main medium was oils. This image just has that feel of oil paints on canvas. Very cool!

Thank you very much for the compliments! Regarding the anatomy, I don't believe this cheek horn would obstruct or reduce the functionality of the jaw closing. given the shape of the face, I think there is plenty of room for the masseter muscle to connect from the cheek bone to the bottom of the jaw.

Possibly. I may have to try to find more diagrams to look at. Maybe that'll help my visualization and such. ^^

And you're welcome!

The dragon does indeed look "bad-ass" ... forgve my use of language but I am quoting you. ^^

Also I already knew Shin hadn't designed the character but.... I don't know. I don't mean for my comments to be somewhat ... wasted as you put it but as I said I do have difficulty seeing how certain designs can work. You're right about the musculature on a human jawbone but on some diagrams I have seen, particularly of predatory dinosaurs, there's a lot of muscle flesh of the jaw bone. I realize there's a lot of muscle on the inside of the jaw bone too and not just on the outside but...meh. I'm just complicated myself I think. T.T

But again like you said perhaps dragons have evolved a certain allowance for such growths. My brain just doesn't wrap around them. T.T

I think wasted was too strong a word...so, sorry about that. I didn't intend to sound mean about it. Just me butting my nose in where it doesn't belong, I guess. They are your comments and opinions - I really had no place to jump on 'em. We all think, imagine, and conceptualize things differently, and there's nothing wrong with that.
