Description

Test your skills with the tutorial supplement worksheet here

Another tutorial arrives :[____]

I've been making tutorials every month for all of my $5+ Patrons . Out of respect for them and their support, these tutorials remain locked for Patrons only for 6 months, but I decided to post them publicly (at a lower resolution) after that! This month's tutorial is: Writing for Webcomics

This tutorial covers things I learned over the last 10 years writing for my webcomics Mare Internum and The Meek . The advice here is pretty general though, so you should be able to apply it to a wide variety of written works! I just wanted to talk about some common features/ downsides to working in online comics, and how to kinda finagle around them to make the stuff you enjoy the most :]

As usual, the full archive of high-res tutorials are always available to Patrons , and the current tutorial/ worksheet of the month is available for the next highest tier.

Have fun!

Thank you for the will detailed explanation! I have question though. If writer wanted to create webcomics, but doesn't have the art skills. What should the writer do? Is there any tips that you can recommend?

Well, that was me a few years ago, haha. I guess it just depends on how much time or inclination you have to learn to do it yourself, or how much money you have to fairly compensate someone who does have the skills to bring your words to the page. Either start learning or start saving up!

I see thanks! Although I have feeling that it might be both!

This was fun and informative! I'm glad that you made this post about writing for webcomics specifically, since that's often overlooked. And I especially appreciate the script part. It always seems like the "proper" way to write a script is in actual script format with each of the panels laid out, but that just doesn't work for me, so seeing someone say "it's ok to not do that" is really helpful. Thanks for posting this.

HA HA! I immediately did number 2. ( Not in the potty,  I mean on DA!)  It can work.

Unless you draw a random three to five panel strips, then there are no rules XD

Thank you for this! I am intending to reboot a comic I started ages ago [that i never had a fully outlined story for, bad idea!] and  I see that doing a few pre-comics might be a good idea as well. Again, thank you, it really helps a lot.
