Oh, I do this all the time! I normally write with pen, and sometimes in class I get really, really bored, so I tend to doodle full page illustrations of my characters and whatever I happen to be thinking about at the time! Shading with pen is really fun!

Ah I prefer using a pen too, especially when it comes to note-taking for classes! For the longest time I did my sketches in pen since I don't like smudges in my sketchbook but I feel like I can do a lot more with pencil so I've been alternating between the two. ^^

Yeah, same! Although I don't really smudge much... somehow I mange to keep the page clean! (It's a miracle considering I'm so messy everywhere else)

I don't make too many smudges when I draw but for some reason the lead tends to "transfer" to the adjacent page if I draw on the back of the drawing since the pages are thick enough that I can draw on both sides...>___> Back when I only did traditional art (before I got a tablet) I used a shitajiki board to avoid smudges on the drawing ^^

That's so cool! Instead of getting smudges on the paper, I get graphite smudges on my face, or my arms... And I have no clue how they get there? (Just like I have no idea how my brother gets frosting on his forehead or in his hair when eating a cupcake....) Wow I'm messy!

Aha that used to happen to me before I got a shitajiki board--the drawing may not be smudged but I'd have the lead smeared all over my fingers and palm xD It's amazing how easy it is to pick up graphite--that's essentially what kneaded erasers do--you just press it over an area and it literally erases by picking up the graphite off the paper. And that's hilarious about your brother getting frosting everywhere! xD

It is quite funny.... (Sometimes he'll get frosting on his face and we're not even eating cupcakes- and I'll be like, HOW?) But I love kneaded erasers! They are my second favorite next to the white rubber eraser. I actually got a new eraser, a Prismacolor one, and it seems to be doing all right, with minimal smudging, and it erases until there's no lines left... It's pretty great so far!

Ahh I've always stuck with plastic erasers since I use a really good one and see no need for another type of eraser (I use the Japanese Mono erasers) but I think it'd be useful to have a kneaded eraser since it's more precise when it comes to erasing really tiny details and small areas ^^

They are really useful! I have this Prismacolor Magic Rub, and it's like a mix between a kneaded and a white rubber! It can erase softly and completely, without ripping paper! It's pretty great..

Aha you wouldn't believe the number of tries I did before finally drawing this one--at least 2-3 pages worth of failed pen sketches and then I got lucky ^^U

Aha well any practice is good practice, no matter how many times you feel that it's a fail! I also had a somewhat easier time doing the challenge since I normally draw in my sketchbook with a pen anyway--drawing with something that can't be erased forces you to learn from your mistakes and learn to be confident in your lines/strokes even if in the end it doesn't turn out the way you wanted ^^

Back when all I did was traditional art, I'd just color with the cheap color pencils that you usually buy for school. Nowadays I hardly color my traditional art, and if I do then it's usually just shading with COPICs and hardly ever a full-blown colored pic. I do have a coloring book if I ever need to relax with crayons LOL
