Description So I was on the way home from shooting in Boko temple a couple of weeks ago when a friend of mine called me, asking whether I could come over immediately to the house of a former lecturer of mine. His youngest daughter just passed away that morning, and I was asked to help documenting the funeral. Never did this kinda job before, I actually hesitated for a moment, but in the end I really couldn't say no.

As I had predicted, it wasn't a pleasant situation to shoot. Specially when I was around the grieving family, God it felt weird. Them with tears and all, and then there's me with a camera in hands... Perhaps because I knew the people that made it harder. Then again perhaps it didn't matter at all.

Didn't go there in hope of getting some good frames or anything, but... this one basically shows the general atmosphere around the family of the deceased on that day.

Like the old saying lose your parent you lose your past, lose your sibling you lose your present, but lose your child you lose your future.

This picture is sad, the father's face looks stony, like his heart just died.

This picture will help me with making art with my deceased Mother.

Bukan "menang" sih itungannya, karena emang bukan lomba. Cuma kebetulan ikut dimuat di JPG Mag edisi 12. Thanks.

I still come across the father every now and then, and though he is now doing his daily activities as a lecturer again like usual, he always tells me how he can never gets over the sadness to this day. Losing a child is a very painful experience one isn't supposed to feel.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to comment.

There's a quote from an America show called Six Feet Under that is quite fitting to this:

"You know what I find interesting? If you lose a spouse, you're called a widow, or a widower. If you're a child and you lose your parents, then you're an orphan. But what's the word to describe a parent who loses a child? I guess that's just too f***ing awful to even have a name."

No parent should ever lose a child and his image brings what I think is a small insight into that feeling of grief!

Wonderfully shot!

How awful. I like how the parents(?) are the only people whose faces are shown. And they look like they're being watched over by their daughter.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shinsenfreak In reply to SeekingDivinity [2007-04-29 00:35:40 +0000 UTC]

It was actually the reason why I took the photo, as soon as the parents sat down I could see that I could frame them and the photograph of their daughter without any other distracting elements. The decision to take it, though, was a rather tough one. Thank you for the comment, mate.
