Lol! It's really not! It's downtown L.A., so it's actually really dingy and poorly made. In fact, I learned the word "ersatz" (meaning inferior substitute) in an article someone wrote about this place. It looks decent enough in photos, but Europe it is not! And here's another quote from that same article describing it as anΒ "odd combination of genuine urban grit paired with classic Hollywood style set building and illusion."Β

ah, how interesting. I'm familiar with the word ersatz.
is dingy and poorly made the norm in L.A.?

It seems to be in downtown L.A.

How odd. corruption in the construction industry?

The skyscrapers are built well enough, but downtown is full of people who do not care for the environment as much as they should, so it's dingy. Meanwhile, facades are just that, fake fronts, so not as much care are put into them either.

Dang. Has anybody tried to change it?Β

ShipperTrish In reply to MangekkoJones [2017-08-24 18:07:27 +0000 UTC]

Not that I'm aware of. The problem is that there are those of us who care deeply about the environment and do everything in our power to put trash where it belongs or better yet, recycle. Then that are those who know it's Β bad to pollute, but do it anyway because they simply don't care and/or feel bada** for doing something they clearly shouldn't.Β

I recycle trash Β I see on the floor. newspapers and the lights.
People actually think they're being badass or rebelious? that sounds like a dumb thing a preteen would think up.
Have you ever heard of solarpunk?

Yes, it's sad and frustrating and makes you question peoples' mental state to do something like that.Β

No, I had not, but I looked it up and it sounds like something I could stand behind.

Maybe you could write in that genre if you have writing ambitions.
