Description Alright, here's my next to last installment of my Ah! My Goddess character series. This one features the warrior goddess Lind who's a attack first, ask questions later. This one is a little more my style and a little less Fujishima but hopefully you'll like my take on it.

Thanks, some people didn't like the pose but many did. I'm happy with it. The weapon turned out surprisingly nice for putting not much thought into it.

Sometimes things look great when one does not overthink it. And the reason I like the pose is not only do you not really see such a pose often, but more importantly, the character is balanced while doing it. She doesn't look like she is about to fall over which is always a task in itself with odd stances, at least it is for me.

shiroboi In reply to ratcabob [2010-02-16 21:00:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, normally I'd agree with you but I think I didn't really take into account the weight of the axe. If she wasn't holding it, she'd be perfectly balanced. I still like the pose though, my wife says its her favorite one.

ratcabob In reply to shiroboi [2010-02-16 22:21:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah that's true, the axe is in the air isn't it. Forgot about that. Hahaha!
Well she has super-strength then, problem solved. XD

I remember a while back ago you mentioned that you wanted to work on more dynamic poses and looking at the deviations in my message center, you certainly achieved it. They're very dynamic yet still natural, a hard thing to accomplish.

I especially like the blues in this one. Keep up the great work!!

Wow, that's quite the compliment. Unfortunately, I feel I still have so far to go. I'm finishing the last of my commissions today so maybe I'll buckle down and do some anatomy studies after it.

The pose looks deceivingly simple but it's really complex in many ways. You did extremely well in shifting her weight in the pose. Her slight twist as well as the movement of her clothes are very believable. The detail in the weapon is amazing too.

shiroboi In reply to Jazine [2010-01-21 12:52:19 +0000 UTC]

It's something I've been rather conscious of lately. Trying to give the body a softer and more natural look to it, while still being dynamic. Its rather challenging. I did the weapon fast and I guess I was just lucky that the metal effects came out so good. I was like, wow, I did that?

I like what you're doing here. It's more detail and than I'm used to seeing from you, which is great. The lighting and shadow is a great touch.

It's funny that you post this because I'm actually playing around with the lighting effects/filters in Photoshop. Cool stuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiroboi In reply to ManiacalChaos [2010-01-19 14:19:43 +0000 UTC]

I didn't actually use any filters on this. Everything was done by hand. I'd be happy to share tips if you want to know how I did anything.

I forgot to mention that this was drawn on 11x17 paper and inked with Manga Studio 4, colored in photoshop. That's enabled me to put in more detail than usual.

ManiacalChaos In reply to shiroboi [2010-01-20 12:49:49 +0000 UTC]

All the more impressive. I'm trying to stay away from filters but I find that I am giving in to experimentation more than I thought I would.

I'll absolutely take you up on your advice. I'm finding I'm very rusty not just with the digital medium but with color overall.

Theres a lot to learn but tons of great tutorials out there. I'm not totally against using them but it has to absolutely be the right application for it. With your work, I think you might like to use Painter. If you know photoshop, its very similar but emulates just about every type of natural media. A tablet is a must. Do you have one?
