Personality: DJ is a very unusual clydesdale. Where most members of his breed are usually calm and gentle, DJ is more energetic and open, his movements wild and his action graceful but exaggerated. It's as though he has some thoroughbred in him, the way he spends his days running and trotting in vast circles, kicking in the air and racing the other smaller horses in somewhat obnoxious games of tag (games they don't always have to agree to it seems). He is an absolutely fearless horse. He has no problems with vehicles, dogs, other horses, tough handlers, nothing, he takes everything in absolute stride with a sense of confidence and competitiveness. Well... when he feels like it anyway. DJ's confidence often gets in the way of competitions and his daily handling, as it makes him awfully stubborn and somewhat rebellious. When he gets bored or decides that he doesn't want to do something, he can become quite a handful- fussing, fidgeting, resisting commands and just being generally a pain in the ass. He's kicked trainers in the past for trying to make him do something he didn't want to and, with a horse of his size, this is simply unacceptable. So DJ is not typically ridden in saddle and is instead handled at a distance. He also loves to bite and nip playfully at horses and handlers alike, stealing hats and yanking on sleeves. He can be a little annoying, to say the least. He earned the name DJ because of his love of music, which he loves to arbitrarily "dance" to- throwing his head, pawing the ground and prancing almost dressage-style around the pasture whenever it's played aloud. He cannot accurately keep the beat of course- he is just a horse after all, but he does seem to enjoy the sound of it, especially fast paced dance music.

Background: DJ's a purebred Clydesdale bred on a farm in Wales, where his strange markings and even stranger blue eyes made him a highly undesirable example of his breed. At least in the eyes of this particularly elite stable. So, soon after his first birthday, DJ was sold to an American who brought him over to the states. The idea was to train him for use in commercials, similar to the Budweiser Clydesdales, but once again, his looks betrayed him some. His blue eyes seemed odd against his bay face, and his unique markings made it hard to find horses to stand in for him between shots. He appeared in only one very brief commercial and never again. Annoyed by the botched investment, DJ was literally tied outside of the Philadelphia SPCA and just left there over night. He'd been relatively well taken care of before that, so it was easy to re-home him at first. But his difficult personality caused his first two adopters to return him. And that was where Skol found him. His sister Hati had been working at the shelter part time, but needed a more stable job, so he'd arrived to bring her to STS when he found out about the troublesome stallion. Immediately, Skol found DJ a suitable challenge for him to attempt to tame and, after making a few phone calls, got the okay to adopt the Clydesdale.

Skol and Hati both worked to mellow DJ out. He is still somewhat obnoxious and a very challenging horse to ride, but he is currently a lot better than he was upon his initial arrival.
