You're welcome! After seeing the photo of referΓ©ncia now (when I saw your work for the first time not compared it with the reference) I could see why the front claw looked strange:

1- The front claw (which is supported on the floor) in your Scratchboard seems to have three fingers instead of four as shown in the reference. This is because you have not marked well the separation of the first finger from the left, and it seems that the first and second finger (the pinky and ring fingers) are the same.

2- He has also missed you dial a little slits where the nails of all fingers are retracted (in reference barely visible, but easily appreciate).

3- With the index finger goes something like that in 1: separation with the other fingers is well marked, but the shape and depth of the finger not just be fine (that little lump on the right end should be less pronounced out-and that is not part of that finger, if not possibly the big finger left more ago-).

Of course this is a personal opinion, and I apologize because you do not ask a critique of your work. I just commented why not look good claw (I hope I explained well, my English is still poor).

If you want, take a look at my oil on wood "eco and logical eviction / Desahucio eco y logico "; although support and position holding the claw or hand on the ground is different (hence the nails look more), separation of the fingers is similar.

A greeting!

MarvelousMargay [2016-05-18 23:19:10 +0000 UTC]

Can you give me the brands that you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shonechacko In reply to MarvelousMargay [2016-06-01 18:24:01 +0000 UTC]

I have only tried scratchboards made by ampersand and I love them. I just ordered a few esdee boards just to try them, but it is highly unlikely that they are going to be better than ampersand based on the feedback from other scratchboard artists. I use inks of many different brands. ampersand inks are best if you plan to rescratch after coloring since they don't stain the white clay. winson and newton inks are very vibrant, but leaves a stain. ph martins bombay inks are kind of alright. koh-i-noor inks are probably the best after ampersand since it comes in a lot more colors.

I get the tattoo needles, art knife and fiber glass brushes from amazon. the brands do not matter for those.

Wow, I didn't know you could get that much detail with scratchboard! Should have tried using my x-acto knife when I had the chance.

shonechacko In reply to Leonca [2016-02-07 20:52:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, if you use a clay based scratchboard. If you use a paper one, then there is not much you can do.
