Description My final piece for the Advanced Lighting class I'm taking over at Schoolism! I kinda went nuts with this one and changed it quite a bit to suit my needs, but what the hell- when you want to paint the Southwest, you paint the goddamn Southwest.

What is your opinion on the Schoolism classes? I know they're wonderful, exceedingly talented successful teachers but did you truly learn a lot & improve? Very interested in doing some sort of summer course through them.

I definitely did! Β I know they're pricey so they're not for everything, but Sam Nielson's class was a HUGE eye-opener for me, and his one-on-one feedback was invaluable.

Oh god, salmon and teal. Why is it that every building in the Southwest is salmon and teal? It's bizarre. I live in Arizona and those two colors are THE team colors of all that is Western. Anytime something's West-themed, bam. Gotta have that salmon and teal. haha.

The color of the local rocks and clay, used as building materials, combined with the color of the most locally abundant precious stone, turquoise, for added decoration. Β Cheers!

Augh this is so cool. I am seriously considering taking that class but am so swamped with so many things right now. How much time did it take up on a daily/weekly basis?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shoomlah In reply to chelseakenna [2012-02-08 02:08:36 +0000 UTC]

Depends on each assignment- usually a few nights of work? Pretty comparable to homework in college. A lot of it is what you're putting into it/want to get out of it- obviously when you're paying that much for a class, it seems worth it to put your all into each assignment. This one definitely took longer, but that's just because it's my final.

Anyway, tl;dr, SUCH A GREAT CLASS. Really loved taking it.

Having lived in the Southwest for a few years, I must say, you've really captured the spirit, here. Everything from the little details to the overall shapes to the way the air looks so hot and dry.
