Well, Steven Universe does have a canon queer couple in it so it could easily be seen as a gay pride statement. Not to mention the all of the gems being genderless .

I think that's because the show is aimed at everyone. It's for kids but the folks making it didn't take the path of "dumb it down". They instead took the path of "explain what's happening in language kids understand". Which is really nice.

Well, besides Steven, the gems DO use female pronouns, technically making them female. Other than that, they are genderless.

They use female pronouns, yes, but that doesn't negate that they genderless. They are perceived as female by humans and don't object to she pronouns being used for them. My non-binary friends might use he or she or they pronouns but they're still non-binary. They just have a preferred pronoun.
