Description Another of my attempts to recreate a character from 'My little Pony: Friendship is Magic' in the superhero online game called 'DC Universe Online'.

A tall spire of black crystal erupted forth from the earth. Sombra stood atop of it, letting his gaze sweep across everything that lay below him. The inhabitants on this city Metropolis, all transformed into the correct shape of ponies. Right now, they were either running around in a panic or standing still as they gazed up at him and his troops in fear. Soon enough, they would kneel in front of him and his queen. Then there were the defenders of this world, also as ponies, having joined forces with inhabitants of his own home dimension, easily recognizable from their now human forms. All rebels and traitors would have to be punished accordingly, of course.

Then he looked up... at the glorious form of his one and only queen, Nightmare Moon. He quivered with admiration. She was beauty, she was power, she was darkness. She was everything he admired and the only pony he would ever kneel in front of. Now that she had cast off that ridiculous weak former shell of a weak princess, she could rule at his side. For the longest time he had searched for a way to bring her dark side back to the surface. The crystal of Eclipso had granted him his heart's desire.

The crystal pillar stopped growing as soon as he reached Nightmare Moon's height. She watched him with mild interest as he gave her a courteous bow. "My dark queen... it is so good to once again lay eyes on your true self. All the time I was cursed to be an immaterial shadow, I watched you. I was overjoyed when you transformed for the first time and got furious with anger when Celestia banished you in the moon. I was full of hope for a short time when you returned... those hopes were crushed when the Elements of Harmony returned you to your weak and frail self. But now here you are... at my side, where you belong. Let this world be my offering to you. Soon enough, we will rule over it as king and queen." And he fell on his right knee in front of her.

She raised an eyebrow. "So I take it you aren't upset with me for when Celestia and I turned you into shadow?"

"My lady, that wasn't you. You were in the form of that weak Luna, your mind wasn't clear yet. I had yet to show you the true path to glory, the path to darkness. You felt it, didn't you? You felt it seep into your soul after our battle... it strengthened you, showed you the truth about the ungrateful ponies and that arrogant sister who always stood in the spotlight. This clarity... it was my very first gift to you."

"Rise, Sombra!" Nightmare Moon smiled. She was satisfied with what she heard. It was all true... when she was Luna, she was weak. Afraid to use her powers to their full potential. But this... this is what she was supposed to be. A true queen of the night! And every queen needed her king, right? She took his hand as he got back up to his feet. "I accept your gifts gratefully and invite you to join me as we purge this world of all who rebel against us."

"You won't succeed with that, demon!" An angry-looking mare flew up to them, floating on the winds even though she had no pegasus wings. "Whoever you are." Wonder Woman then glared at Sombra. "And you... it was foolish to leave your stronghold. Now that you're out in the open, it is time for you to pay for your crimes against humanity."

"Look, dear!" Sombra smiled. "One of this world's defenders thinks she has the upper hand, just because I left my throne room. Or would that be 'upper hoof'?"

Wonder Woman gritted her teeth. "You dare mock the Amazon princess of Themyscira?"

"A princess, hmm?" Nightmare Moon asked. "This will be interesting. Let's see if you live up to your name... even though you have not become an alicorn. Dear, would you leave this one to me?"

Sombra stepped aside with a bow. "Be my guest, my queen!"

"Surrender now and I'll go easy on you, villain!" Wonder Woman shouted. She reached for her lasso of truth and spun it around with a skill that would make Applejack green with envy.

Nightmare Moon dodged the attack effortlessly. "Precious!" she smirked. "Now it's my turn..." Raising her hands, she channelled her magic into one powerful sphere of darkness, which she fired at the ponified princess. Raising her magical bracers, Wonder Woman was barely able to deflect the projectile in time.

"You will find that I'm not as defenseless as you might think," the Amazonian mare shouted as she attacked Nightmare Moon with a flurry of powerful kicks using both her forelegs and hindlegs.

Nightmare Moon was more than happy to meet her assault, exchanging blows with her, striking out with punches and kicks of her own and throwing the occasional magic blast in the mix. "Ah, the thrill of combat... I've never been the passive type like my sister was. I am not only a queen, I am a warrior... I live not only for the beauty of night, but also for the excitement of battle. Don't you feel it, rebel?"

"Your prattle reminds me of Ares..." Wonder Woman grumbled. "I don't like it... time to shut you up!" She pulled her hoof back and hit Nightmare Moon with a powerful blow that connected with her chin. The dark queen grunted as she was propelled backwards, right into Sombra's crystal pillar.

"My queen!" Sombra gasped. "How dare you?" He snarled and was just about to attack Wonder Woman himself, when Nightmare Moon let out a scream of rage as she flew back up.

"You insolent INSECT!" she roared. "I've had enough of you... I command you to KNEEL!" She fired a powerful, broad beam of dark light from her right palm, which hit Wonder Woman's dead center. Unprepared for this sudden, powerful attack, the Amazon was blasted down to earth in a spectacular explosion of light and darkness. Moments later, she was lying in a small crater in the middle of the streets, unconscious.

Those members of the Justice League that were around to witness her fall, gasped in shock. Wonder Woman was one of their strongest fighters... would either of them have a chance against Nightmare Moon and Sombra combined?

"Diana!" Superman shouted. He was about to fly towards the two villains, but was stopped by the Martian Manhunter. "You can't face them, my friend. They wield powerful magic... which is one of your weaknesses."

"Isn't there anyone else who can show them who's boss?" Bon Bon asked as she flew up to them, using her mechanical wings.

Superman looked around. It didn't look good. Captain Marvel had been knocked out by Black Adam in the fight for Stryker's Island. Hawkman fell from the skies moments ago, hit by a powerful laser beam from Brainy Mane. And one half of the League as in Gotham at the moment.

"This fight... it's taking more of us than we anticipated. We can't focus on those two now... Manhunter, grab Diana and get her out of here! The rest of us... we have to stick with the plan. We must take down those generators."

"And the citizens?" Martian Manhunter asked. "Who will protect them from those villains?"

"I know what to do," Rainbow Dash said in a calm voice. Everyone looked at her, most hadn't even noticed she was there, accompanied by her old friend and rival Gilda.

Rainbow Dash raised a fist. "We need to use the only thing that can turn Princess Luna back to normal... the Elements of Harmony!"

"I hate to be a party-pooper, Dash," Gilda said. "But don't you need all six of them to make 'em work?"

"She is right, Rainbow," Twilight said. She flew to her pegasus friend and put a hand on her shoulder. "You need to go to Gotham and get the others. We are the only chance Princess Luna has, but we are all needed. Go there and tell them to get here... In the meantime, I will distract Nightmare Moon."

"But Nightmare Moon needs to be stopped right now!" Rainbow shouted. "I can't let you face her on your own!"

"Don't worry," Twilight smiled. "I'm a princess now, remember? I won't do anything reckless. Now go! Fly as fast as you can!"

Rainbow was torn. She wanted to stay and help her, but at the same time, she knew they needed the others. "Okay... but you better be okay when I come back!" She looked at Gilda. "And Gilda? Do anything you can to help these guys. If you want their forgiveness too, start working on it!" And like a rainbow-colored lightning bolt, she was off.

Gilda blinked. "Wow... she's really getting into that Wonderbolt stuff, isn't she? Starts to sound like our flight camp instructor, too..."

"Will you really be okay on your own?" Superman asked Twilight.

"I only have to distract her until Rainbow returns with the others," Twilight said. "And the most important thing at the moment are those generators, so everyone is needed to take them out."

Superman had to admit that Twilight had a point, so he grudgingly nodded. "Okay, League... move out and take down those generators!" He glared at Gilda. "You're with me!"

"So does that mean I'm part of the League now, too?" the former griffin asked. She grinned. "Neato!"

Meanwhile, Nightmare Moon and Sombra were slowly descending to the streets, looking down at the frightened crowd.

"Citizens of Metropolis!" Nightmare Moon shouted. "As of now, this city is part of our new kingdom... a kingdom of darkness and eternal night! Your town will have the honor of becoming my new capital, at least for now. So I command you... bow down in front of me!"

Most people were too frightened to run away, some were even too scared to move at all. But most of them were so intimidated by the dark, winged woman that they willingly knelt down in front of her. Pony-turned citizens as well as Equestrian tourists that were still in human form.

But there was one little boy in human form that ran up to the queen of the night. "Princess Luna!" he shouted. "Princess Luna, please don't do this! You're not evil. I know you aren't... you are a nice, friendly princess. And you're my favorite!"

Nightmare Moon looked down at the boy in confusion. "Who... are you?"

"Don't you recognize me?" he asked. He then pulled a small eyepatch from his pocket, a toy really, and put it on his eye. "Remember me now? It's me, Pipsqueak! When I met you, you made my very first Nightmare Night the best Nightmare Night ever."

Memories were dancing through Nightmare Moon's head. Memories of a small colt in a pirate costume who was looking up at her adoringly.

"Pip... squeak?" she muttered. She shook her head to clear her thoughts.

He gasped with joy. "You DO remember me! Please, can't you be the nice princess from before? We all loved you for it."

"You... you loved me?" Nightmare Moon muttered. "Ponies really loved me?"

"That is a lie!" Sombra angrily shouted. "No one ever loved you, remember? They shunned your beautiful night... I was the only one who ever truly loved you."

"You probably don't even know what love is," Pip shouted as he stared at Sombra with fear in his eyes, but also defiance. "You are just a big meanie."

"The kid has a point, Sombra," someone behind them spoke up. "You seem to be confused about what love is all about. You don't love the real princess of the night... you only love a twisted image of her, an illusion that shadows what she truly is inside of her."

The villains spun around to see Twilight standing there. "YOU!" Sombra snarled.

Twilight looked past him and into the eyes of Nightmare Moon. "Princess Luna... I've come to bring you back to your senses."

This is a surprise indeed. How did Pipsqueak ever get through the mirror gate?

And I love the scene of Sombra professing his undying love for Nightmare Moon. It feels so right for the character.

Superman looked around. It didn't look good. Captain Marvel had been knocked out by Black Adam in the fight for Stryker's Island.

Heh, I probably said this before, but I like to think that if Celestia and Luna knew of any of the DC-verse humans before this, Shazam/the old wizard Jebediah was probably one of them. He's probably been around as long as they were!
