Description Another of my attempts to recreate characters from 'My little Pony: Friendship is Magic' in the superhero online game called 'DC Universe Online'.

Gotham City at night. Usually, the citizens preferred to stay indoors at this time. They knew of the dangers that lurked in every dark corner. The town was filled with dangerous individuals, muggers, lunatics and supervillains. Even though they knew they had the Batman and other heroes assisting them, Gotham was by no means a town you could call safe.

As previously mentioned, not a lot of people were outside at this hour. So there was almost no one there to see the two winged shapes that flew past the tower of Wayne Enterprises.

The leader of the duo was a red-haired woman with yellow wings. She wore a blue bodysuit with yellow bolts of lightning painted on it. Not a color scheme heroes in Gotham preferred to wear, since outfits as bright as this were just screaming for attention. "Keep your eyes sharp," she told her partner. "We're flying over crime alley next. There are always a lot of crooks around there, I've been told."

The other flyer, a tall man with tousled blue hair and white wings, nodded at that. "I know, Spitfire. I was present at the briefing. But I still don't see the point in all of this. Why did Princess Celestia send us here? I have to train for our next show, you know? Why not send a troop of pegasi from the royal guard? Or maybe Princess Luna's night guard, they would fit right in here, don't you think?"

"What do you think the Wonderbolts are, Soarin?" Spitfire snapped. "We are a military division, a specialized air unit in service of the princess. We are not showponies! The only reason we decided to do these shows and races was because we had nothing to do. In times of peace, military teams like ours don't really have a lot of uses. Aren't you the one who complained that there was not enough action back in Equestria?"

"Yes, but..." Soarin sighed. "This isn't much better, you know? I don't really mind being turned into this two-legged human-thing, that's actually sorta cool. But we've been patrolling for what, two hours? And nothing happened! This is even more boring than doing training exercises with the cadets at the academy."

His captain was not amused. "Listen, the princess decided to start a positive relationship with this world. We were sent here because she learned that this town has a serious crime problem and that the local police and heroes have trouble dealing with everything on their own. The princess does not need to believe that her air forces are a bunch of whiny foals who complain all the time. So at least try to act like you're my second-in-command once in a time!"

The former stallion took a deep breath. "All right... you're the captain. But don't you agree that there isn't really anything that..."

"Wait," Spitfire interrupted him. "I heard something... sounds like something's coming. Something flying..." She narrowed her eyes. "Oh, horseapples! Why does it have to be so dark?"

But then, the moon appeared from behind some clouds and threw illuminated a group of three individuals that approached them. They were all winged, but apart from that, they couldn't be any more diverse.

On the left, there was a human, clad in a metallic bodysuit. He had a helmet that resembled the head of an insect, a pair of mechanical wings attached to his back and what looked like a flamethrower strapped to his right arm. On the right, there was a feral-looking creature, which looked like a mix between a bat and a human. And in the middle... was Lightning Dust, wearing an outfit that looked almost identical to their own, except that it wasn't blue, but instead dark purple. Now that Spitfire thought about it, the metallic insect-man's armor had the same color markings, as well as the ripped leather pants of the bat creature.

"Well well well," Lightning Dust smiled. "Who have we here? Our first flight mission, and I have the pleasure to run into my old flight instructor. Long time no see, Spitfire."

"Lightning Dust?" Spitfire shouted in surprise. "What are you doing here? Who are those guys? And... what are you wearing?"

"Like it?" she grinned. "It's the official uniform of my very own flight team... the Shadowbolts!"

"Shadowbolts?" Soarin asked. "Wait, what? Who made you captain of a flight team?"

"Someone with an obviously very poor sense of responsibility," Spitfire grumbled. "How long until you jeopardize the life of your new teammates?"

"I'd shut up right now if I were you," the insect man said in a metallic voice while aiming his flamethrower at Spitfire's head. "The boss doesn't like smart asses like you very much... and neither do I." The bat-thing let out an aggressive screech.

"Calm down, Firefly," Lightning Dust said. "And keep Man-Bat in check, will ya?" Firefly nodded and pressed a button on his armor. A faint buzzing noise could be heard, and Man-Bat shook his head for a while, then stopped screeching. LIghtning Dust looked back at the Wonderbolts with a smug grin. "Spitfire here just can't stand the fact that I climbed up the ladder to fame and power as fast as she did."

"You obviously learned nothing," Spitfire said. "Being a leader is more than just giving orders and enjoying the fame. A captain must show discipline, act as an example for his team and, most importantly, be responsible. I can't imaging any of these points applying to you at all."

"Silence!" Lightning Dust shouted. "I don't have to listen to you anymore. What do you know? My new boss certainly recognized my worth. Oh, and he wants us to keep troublemakers out of his turf. That obviously means you two." She cracked her knuckles. "Ready to rough 'em up a bit, boys?"

Firefly chuckled, while Firefly raised his weapon and Man-Bat bared his fangs.

"There you have your action," Spitfire said. "Happy now?"

"Well, this sure got a lot more exciting than I would have guessed," Soarin said. He then smirked. "You wanna take on the rookie captain? I got the other two."

"Will you be fine on your own?" she asked.

"Watch me! Hey you stupid oafs! Come and get me!"

With a screech, Man-Bat flew after Soarin, Firefly coming right after them. At the same time, Spitfire was facing Lightning Dust. "You still have a lot to learn."

"Shut up! I've been waiting for this... you and Rainbow Dash humiliated me in front of the whole academy. Now It's time to pay..." And without warning, she shot a bolt of crackling lightning right out of her palm. Taken by surprise, Spitfire yelped when she was electrocuted.

"AAAAAAAH H-how...?"

"Surprised? I can make lightning on my own now. I'm a stronger captain than you will ever be! Soon, no one will talk about the Wonderbolts ever again, because... they won't exist anymore!" She shot another lightning bolt, but Spitfire was prepared this time and nimbly dodged it.

"Okay then..." she said. "Show me what you got!"

Meanwhile, Soarin was having some problems with Firefly and Man-Bat. When he wasn't savagely attacked with fangs and claws, he was being bombarded with fire and explosives. "Dang..." he muttered. "Might actually have some trouble here... me and my big mouth..."

"Ready for some barbecued chicken wings?" Firefly chuckled as he aimed his flamethrower at Soarin's wings. But before he could fire, a batarang flew out of nowhere and struck the techno-villain that it got stuck in some important-looking device on his shoulders. "What the... Batman!"

Both he and Soarin looked at the rooftop they were flying next to, and indeed, the caped crusader was standing there. "Give up, Firefly. You are going to Arkham."

"Not today, Bats!" the villain shouted and reached for a firebomb. But then, he was tackled from behind by Man-Bat. The beast had apparently flown into a murderous rage as it tried to rip off Firefly's mechanical wings. "Argh! Get off, you freak! Obey, dammit!"

"What's going on? Why is he attacking him?" Soarin asked in confusion.

"I destroyed the sonar control device on his armor," Batman said. "Penguin once used that to control Man-Bat. Looks like he hired Firefly to get him back under control. You take care of Man-Bat, I'll handle Firefly."

"Yes, sir!" Soarin saluted and flew at Man-Bat, pulling the thrashing creature off Firefly's back.

At the same time, Spitfire and Lightning Dust were playing a game of hide-and-seek among the clouds. "I'll find you and then I'll show you that I'm the best there is," Lightning Dust swore.

"Aren't you going to help your teammates?" Spitfire asked as she burst forth from a cloud right in front of her. "Looks like they've got a bit of trouble."

"They aren't important! I am the captain! I am this team! And you... you're nothing!" She charged both of her hands up with lightning.

Spitfire sighed. "Looks like you still learned nothing. All right, time for another lesson. Being a leader isn't the same as shouting orders and telling others what to do." She then dove right at the other woman, knocking the breath out of her lungs and disrupting her electricity channeling. Lightning Dust was thrown down by the force of the blow and tried frantically, to fly back up. She flapped her wings... but then a blue-suited winged woman appeared right next to her and grabbed her from the right. At the same time, another woman with the same suit appeared on the other side and grabbed her right. Lightning Dust struggled, but she couldn't get free.

Spitfire smiled as she flew up to them. "If you show your teammates you respect them, you can expect to be respected back and be assisted in any way possible." She nodded towards the other two Wonderbolts. "Good to see you finally made it, Fleetfoot, Surprise."

"Sorry, captain," Surprise giggled. "Too much air traffic."

Soon enough, Firefly and Lightning Dust were tied up and brought to Arkham. As for Man-Bat, he turned back into his normal human self after being knocked out for some time.

"I would have come up with a way to take care of all three of them," Batman said. "I knew the penguin was putting together some new team that did his dirty work for him. But I guess with your help, keeping the skies clear will be even easier."

"The Wonderbolts were happy to help, Batman!" Spitfire smiled and saluted. The rest of her teammembers imitated the gesture and then they were off, following their captain across the night sky of Gotham.

Very well done fight scene here! Good mix of action, character, and setting. And I like the interaction between Lightning Dust and Spitfire.

Yeesh, with all the super-ponies showing up in Gotham, I'd be surprised if Bats doesn't try reforming the Outsiders from them.

Thank you. I am very proud of my action scenes. And it is fun to write them.

As with all the super-ponies, it's really not that much different from the plot of DC Universe Online, where lots of humans suddenly gain superpowers through Brainiac's Exobytes, so that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman decide to mentor some of them. Of course, Lex Luthor, Joker and Circe do the same for the new villains. But maybe you already knew that.

I knew something about that latter part, but this helped clarify just what was going on. Thanks.;
