Description Accepted today for testing at Daz3D!

Sometimes the old-fashioned way is best.  This set is made of transmapped meshes that you can add to your scene to quickly and easily create fog.  It's vastly faster and more efficient in your scene than SSS haze/atmosphere methods, you can see in preview exactly where everything goes, and you can see the billowing edges, which Iray at present is unable to accomplish with SSS atmosphere.  It also has rigged tendrils that can be posed and a blast-off plane for superhero takeoffs (neither in this scene, this is all planes).

You can combine it with existing products like Marshian's great Atmocam to get both effects, if you've got some render time to spare or a really killer machine; they are very compatible.

I just bought this, but I'm not sure what is going on. It loads in the scene as a box. I applied the shader, but it did not change. When I render, there is no fog.  Help!

It didn't install properly. Redo the DIM installation or submit a ticket to Daz3d support, please?

I still find iray fog not as convincing as 3Delight Volumetric... is there no way to capture just as beautifully as that? Iray I find is beset with lines demarking where fog starts. I was just wondering your point of view, thank you.

So far there isn't yet.  3Delight allowed of creating volume and scripted shaders (like the AOA volumetric shaders, which are pretty awesome, and the UberVolume shaders, which still look better than Iray's SSS haze).  I don't think we even know yet if Iray's MDL allows for that in Shader Mixer.

Billowing edges are highly desirable, but rigged tendrils are something I hadn't even considered and should allow some wonderfully dramatic uses.

Is it possible to use the latter to create an illusion of breath? Breath and salivating drool for mouths would be extremely useful props for horror art.

SickleYield In reply to Sentinalysis [2016-10-11 22:28:20 +0000 UTC]

Salivating drool is way too difficult to pull off with a set like this if Horrible Slime already doesn't do it for you (it has rigged slime tendrils).  You could easily get a breath effect by turning some of the clouds sideways (there are "small shape of smoke" options that would work for that).

The tendrils are long and narrow (they're intended for cascading dry ice fog, ice wending inside doors, etc.) and I can't see how they would work for breath in a horror context.

Ooh, I'd definitely find some use for it moving under a door! Is there a way to select custom colours for it? Would be interesting to try and replicate the green mist creeping beneath Lucy/Mina's door, from 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'.

It only comes with black/gray/white shaders, but it accepts diffuse color tweaks just fine.  It's like a second of work to tint it.

This looks fantastic! I'm sure it will be amazing for a lot scenes where I just want the look of fog, rather than spend forever and then some for the SSS to process. Excitement is building! Great job!

This looks fantastic!  Will work with 3DL as well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SickleYield In reply to WF3D [2016-10-10 17:28:12 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't come with 3DL materials.  3Delight does not like layered transparency.  You'd have to put the UberSurface shader on it and use the occlusion trick for it to be anything like reasonably fast to render.  That's partly why I didn't do 3DL materials.  Most 3DL users will find it as laggy as hair or water and then just won't use it.

Makes sense - thanks for the info.  Once I get a better computer and an Nvidia card (maybe in December depending on the holiday sales and the size of any company bonus), then I can really consider taking advantage of Iray...
