Book accuracy! I thought I would never find a book-accurate Eponine. (Not to mention the fact that I found an actual drawing of Azelma along with it.)

Thanks goodness blond Cosettes aren't very common! When I was in a production of Les Mis our Eponine was blond at least. As for her often being portrayed as a brunette, it's probably because Francis Ruffelle, the first Eponine, had brown hair. I think. Look at Phantom of the Opera - Christine in the book is a blonde, but because Sarah Brightman was a brunette that became the norm for Christine in the musical. (Although I think it's rather refreshing when the beautiful, innocent ingenue has dark hair.)
If you feel you've seen Azelma's face before, maybe you saw this! Or maybe you didn't.

I actually hadn't looked at that picture yet, but it's mad cool! Someone should try out a story on that, just for something original. I seem to recall there was one member of Patron-Minette who was black (and possibly a former slave), so maybe he could've gone on the same boat as the Thenardiers to find his relations or something and he and Azelma would end up teaming up as pirates! That would be so awesome to read! Wheee!
I know what you mean about the whole blonde-to-brunette issue in book-based musicals. The saddest part, however, is that since Christine was turned into a brunette, Meg Giry went from being skinny, black-haired, and dark skinned to buxom and blonde. XP
What was nice about the Eponine I saw on Broadway was that she wasn't really that pretty, and I could detect a little bit of the poverty-driven insanity that is often missed with Broadway-Eppies. Very subtle, but maybe I only picked up on it cuz I've grown biased towards the book. ^_^
There is, unfortunately, a blonde Cosette in the new anime Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette, which I have come to love. The anime, not Cosette. Well, okay, she's grown on me a little. But it sorta makes sense merely because we never see the father, and it makes the physical connection between her and her mother stronger. The anime makes up for it in other ways, like having Azelma!
Sorry this response is so long.

Makes me wonder what an encounter between Erik and Javert would be like. *laughs* I do love fictional men.

I know of at least one fanfic where the two met in the Opera Garnier, but they made Javert younger, so the timeline kinda got switched. I always wondered if Javert had not really committed suicide but instead kinda roved around for a bit and eventually met Erik as a boy. According to Kay's novel, Erik was born in 1831. So, yeah. Grrr, I don't like the fact that Erik's Gypsy-associated-but-actually-a-gypsy cagemaster (is that a word?) was also named Javert.
I kinda had this idea that Erik and Nadir could be forced into a kind of competition against one another with Valjean as Erik's teammate and Javert being Nadir's, but then they end up meeting the OTHER teammate and end up getting along better. Or something like that.
Authoress (to Erik): Well, you and Valjean did practically die from pining away for the girl you loved.
Valjean: But I was Cosette's FATHER! It's different!
Erik: Yeah, and besides, my death bordered more on suicide by self-inflicted starvation.
Javert: Suicide, eh?
Erik: Yes. Why, did you?
Javert: Well, yes. Not over a woman, of course, but it was precluded by a lovely internal monologue.
Erik: And your means of achieving oblivion?
Javert: Swan dove into a river.
Erik: Ooh, very theatrical!
Javert: Why, thank you!
Nadir & Valjean: *facepalm*

GND is every bit as hilarious, and I love Pika's style. And although it focuses on Christine and Sarah, the boys show up quite often. I've laughed my arse off over both strips many, many times.

FINALLY! Azelma gets no love! I have been looking for SO long for some Azelma fanart. I started a picture a while back but never finished it. Azelma needs some more love.
Oh, and the art is fantastic.

Thank you! I find her fascinating because we learn so little of her character (she gets short-shrifted in the book and is completely omitted from the musical), yet her life must have been more interesting than Eponine's short one - after all, Azelma moves to the Caribbean directly following the events of Les Mis. What happens to her then?
That question has given me an idea for another Azelma fanart (this time all her own) with an exciting conjectural twist! Look out for it soon!

Ooh, I do look forward to it! The characters cut from the musical really don't get any fanart, I've found, which is really a shame.

I like Eponine better in the book. And I really hate it when girls say "Oh, I AM Eponine. I identify with her so much." Unless you've been homeless, in prison, pimped by your dad, working with a gang, and so sickly and destitute you don't even have shoes in winter, you do not identify with Eponine. Everyone gets unrequited crushes, get over it. *sigh* Sorry, I get mad cuz I've actually heard girls talk like that and it disgusts me.

I know what you mean defenatley!
The thing is that since the musicals Eponine is gravley romantisized aswell as for the rest of the musical compared to the book.
Another thing that bothers me is that the Thenardiers in generall just seem to have been "silly fiyed" in the musical it bugs me so !
*SIGH*

This is true. In the book the Thenardiers are just disgusting and horrible, but their "sillification" in the musical doesn't bug me because... Well, they make me laugh! They're pretty much the only comic relief. But what really bothers me is how Marius and Cosette's romance is portrayed as if one day they meet and say "hey, you're cute, if I'm not with you I'll die, let's get married," and Marius and Eponine appear to have a flirty friendship goin' on. Marius and Eponine weren't even friends in the book, they spoke to each other maybe three times? Whereas Marius and Cosette were obsessing over each other for a really long time, and then after they met they spent every evening together for about a month, just talking. I love Eponine, but she and Marius would never work. Poor Cosette sure gets the short shrift in the musical.
Even so, it's still one of my favorite shows of all time.

Oh, I really adore Javert, he's so... Inscrutable. And kick-ass, even though he's a bit wacko. I don't know why I haven't done any proper Javert fanart yet, I gotta get on that.
