Description
The top kimono is made from silver satin upholstery fabric, cut and constructed like a traditional kimono except for the body being a single piece of material. The painting was done by hand with black jaquard paint, watered down and applied with a sumi brush. The painting was done entirely freehand, following a dark-to-light, asymmetrical flow often seen in traditional kimono decoration. The artwork is steampunk-inspired, with an abstract water design out of which a giant octopus is grabbing an airship. Tiny crew on the deck of the ship are attempting to fight off the tentacle.

The under kimono is constructed in the same manner as the silver kimono, but out of a cranberry-colored linen look fabric.

The necklace is antique. The tabi and geta are modern, purchased at a store in San Francisco’s Japan Town. The wrist cuff was made by Tom Banwell .
