Another one in the b&w Boardwalk Empire collection I got going on.

Here's Margaret Schroeder, later Thompson, (actress Kelly MacDonald) a poor, but good-hearted mother of two. Widowed from an abusive, alcoholic husband and found love in Nucky Thompson, which made her life change for the better...and worse.

Boardwalk Empire is an HBO original series, a period drama focusing on Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, a political figure who rose to prominence and controlled Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition period of the 1920s and 1930s.

Great artwork; the look on her face represents the character, her constant struggle to choose between good and bad, perfectly.

I really liked the character of Margeret watching season 1 for the first time I could not wait for Nucky to dump Lucy (whom I find so, so very disgusting) for her. And that scene in which he shows up at her place, tackles her to the wall and makes out with her... priceless

But I really, truly did not care for that love story between her and Owen. In my opinion, that whole thing was so very boring. When I re-watch the seasons, I just roll my eyes fast-foward all the Margaret-Owen moments. Not only do I find it boring, to me it just doesn't make any sense. I perfectly understand why Margaret would feel angry at Nucky for cheating on her with Billie, and why she'd be freaked out by his gangster side. But she knows Owen is also having sex with... can't remember her name, that servant girl no one really cares for, and she knows he kills people, so she's perfectly aware he does those same things that turns her off when it comes to Nucky. So what the hell?

I know right? Friggin Lucy. I was cheering for Margaret and Nucky like a true fan-girl. And yeah, that scene is beyond priceless.

If I'm not mistaken, Margaret moved from Ireland to the US, right? I think Owen is like a glimpse of home to her. Made her feel comfortable when everything's in disarray?? And, man, that box scene (where Owen was sent back in) was pretty awkward. When she screamed and ran away and Nucky was looking at her like 'what the hell?'. I just went "oh snap...".

Margaret Catherine Sheila Rohan/Schroeder/Thompson, and sometimes "Peg" (she of many names, even more than Luciano!)

Nice decision to make the wedding ring the focal point; it adds a lot of extra weight to the pose and expression.

Confession: I totally forgot that her maiden name was Rohan. Whoops.

Thank you! That's the plan. But, I guess the plan only works for people who watched Boardwalk. I imagine others'd be like "...I don't understand what this suppose to mean..."

Me too until I noticed she switched back to it in Season 4, and I was like "...did she get remarried to someone?"

Ah yeah. Boardwalk always seems to fly just below the pop cultural radar, despite all the star power/production value. :0

Yeah, it's a shame, isn't it? I guess it doesn't really fit the modern day's "trend". I heard a lot of people stopped watching after "the pretty face", AKA Micheal Pitt, is gone.

I personally didn't care all that much for Jimmy. I only ever felt sorry for him, but that's it (well, okay, also I was pissed at him at the end of the second season). I wasn't expecting Nucky to kill him, but in the end it did make sense, and I wasn't all that sorry to see him go. All of my girl friends who watched the show had a crush on him, which I never understood. I mean sure, he was the young, good looking guy, but he was also weak, easy to manipulate, constantly depressed and pretty much always pouting; what the hell's attractive about that?

Yeah, I know. To me, Jimmy's like the prodigal son of the story. Except, he didn't repent in the end. He kind of did the opposite.  At least he tried.

Well, I guess some girls just want to "fix" a guy so that he'll love her? I don't know, I never had the feeling either.

I wonder! I always try to entice folks by saying "it's like Game of Thrones, but in Gangland 20s!!"

Of course I'm such a history nerd so I really enjoyed seeing how the show interwove fact with fiction throughout the series. I can see how most casual viewers might be put off with having to know so much history to understand the significance of this or that.

Huh, I see. Pitt's exit was certainly shocking, but it just got me more interested to see what would happen next...! In a way, the 'true face' of Boardwalk had to be Richard just because he's such a distinct looking character that's hard to forget.

Well, that's certainly a good way to describe the show.

I do love period shows, series ,movies, anything historical. I personally find them more charming than others, especially the ones that are successful at being genuinely atmospheric. Like Boardwalk for one. Though, I think you don't have to be into historical stuff to enjoy this show. The characters are so charming and in depth. You can watch it purely for drama. But, I guess you do have a point; many shuns the complexity. To each their own indeed.
Yeah, Jimmy's death was quite a mean twist. But, that got me more excited, too. It's like a clean slate, so much more room for so much more possibilities. And I really do love how the show turned out after that. And, yeah, Harrow's like the remnant of the war, reminding us every time we see him. And that fits into his character perfectly. He's definitely one of my favorites.

I know, I never understood how such a fantastic show, with great story lines and amazing actors, doesn't get more recognition. I've been told it's mostly because it gets compared to The Sopranos a lot. I've never watched The Sopranos, but I'm sure it doesn't have such fascinating characters as Nucky, Chalky, Gillian, Gip, Meyers, Rothstein, Margaret... you get the point

ALL THE CHARACTERS. <3

I think Richard sorta got over with even casual viewers because yeah, he has such a distinct look and story to him it's hard to forget.
