Art theft is a constant source of anxiety to any artist ,professional or otherwise, who uses any sort of digital gallery such as blogs and online gallery sites like DA. Whether the artwork is based on a character not of your own creation is besides the point, the artwork itself is yours and unless you use it for financial gain (which you don't) it remains yours. Black sheep are breaking copy-write on both points here. 2000ad or more accurately it's owner the games developer Rebellion probably will not pursue any legal action (it's too small) but tell them anyway and more importantly pursue the matter yourself as it's your artwork and very good it is as well. Short of taking legal action and the cost involved harsh e-mails mentioning 2000ad/Rebellion should be enough to stop them, failing that tell them to give you some free stuff!

Yes as above I see a lot in common with my fav artist Brian Bolland.
The main difference is the more muscular figure.
Dredd these days is always drawn big, where as in the past artists like McMahon and Bolland drew figures more realisticly preportioned.

Your use of fine cross-hatching kind of reminds me of Brian Bolland's work.

hello, really cool, like the imposing fascist overtones, reminds me a bit of sean phillips' work (though your style is distinct and more angular, great stuff though. I got a pretty harsh (though maybe it was fair who knows) knockback from 2000AD.

hi, i sent in the strip that one page is up called 'old work' at the time i thought it was genius but now i don't and can see many of the flaws pointed out were valid, what upset me was there was no encouragement from matt smith (the editor then dunno about now) he didn't pick out anything to like about it (maybe there was nothing) or suggest i come back in a year's time or anything. Don't think i'll submit anything to them again, not sure i'm good enough for them, though personaly with a few exceptions i don't really like any of the artists they have in it at the moment, my faves were all old school, ron smith, bolland, mcmahon, david roach i loved (his anderson was genius), arthur ranson, glen fabry (his slaine was the best imo though bisley on the horned god was amazing too), fazer irving is great of the new generation and lots of others too lol, what are some of your faves/strips characters?

Hey Gahlaktus sorry about the late reply ive mived house and havent had broadband for two months due to sky f'n up my order...grrrrr
i havent sent any work into them since 2005 i decide i would get some practical experience first before sending in any work to them. what 2000ad said about my samples was pretty harsh they crited everything from my technique, choice of style, to my figure work some of it i thought was fair, but i though my work show a hint of potential

haha don't worry bout it,bloody broadbands terrible these days.Yeah i hate it when people's hopes and stuff are just broken down by the 'pro's' its pretty horrible.Tbh If i was in their position i wouldn't hold back on telling someone that they need to improve, fair enough, critersisms good after all,but I'd at least give the submitee some encouragement ,you know, to help them on their way.seriously though I'v seen your gallery and the dredd picture you've done is awsome, a great style too,its rediculus that they can critercize your style or even say its similar to the (i'm sorry if the said artist reads this but its my oppinion) the crap they are using to illustrate dredd stories currently.Any how just practice more i suppose no doubt they'll hire you eventually plus i doubt all the pro's are complete arseholes lol.good luck

Really nice line work, love the angle! shape of the helmet is cool and adds yr own distinctive style to yr work where as the other pieces seem alittle to similar to various 200AD artists. Best of all is the texture of the gloves for me. You ever tried yr luck with 2000AD?

hey david
thank you for your comments its alway nice to hear a personal response not just the standard 'nice work'
i tryed 2000ad a couple off years ago a got totally slated, though to be fair looking back at the work they where right about what the said, but it still felt a bit harsh.
as it happens im working on a try out script now called 'nobody' ive penciled the first page and im just playing about with then panel layouts now once ive decided it will be time to ink, im thinking of posting the pages on deviant art to get some feedback as to which one people think is the best.
out of intrest which of my other pieces do you think is similar to the other 2000ad artists?

Well I had a quick look through yr strip work and there's deffinatly a sense of Brian Bolland and even bits of Mike Mahon or wat ever his name is in there, esp in the Judge Death stuff. But alot of that could be down to the cross hatching and the similar tools u use (Sable). If you want a more personal look why dont you experiment? Why not try to stick to block blacks instead of the shading or experiment with different tools. Plus if yr getting done for yr work being to similar to other Dredd artists it maybe better to concentrate on another character, maybe one of yr own. .......Im saying all this but I never got a commission so who am I to talk, but its just a few ideas. Plus if you think getting harsh crit was bad, on the last stuff i sent I wrote on the letter that I'd really like to know there honest opinion, advice and all that and all i got back was........Sorry your work isn't right for 2000AD. 2 month's work and they can't be arsed to make a comment, now that's harsh.
