I don't know ... I mean ... there could have been many other ghosts instead ... but ... here is what I know :
1- the snake looks a little like Japanese ghosts and spirits
2- the mouth is filthy and gross , remind me of hobos and people who live in the filthy streets
3- the snake movements remind me of weird people when they dance
4- the swirl in the space scene , obviously a sign of madness and weirdness
so ... based on all of those , I'd say " the snake represent the insanity of the real world and how it's tied to legends and myths " ... but I don't know for sure ... it's another one of Gorillaz creepy things
