Looks like I'm a bit late to the party. But I didn't have time! Urgh. Work.

I basically have the same opinion as every TLK fan who is not hating on this right now. I know it's for young kids, so I forgive the funky design, but I hope the pawprint is just mud or something. I also am optimistic that the show will be ok and not mess up everything and everyone - and that it introduces kids to TLK! (Though why they aren't already at least acquainted confuses me. Parents, what are you doing?)

I also wish that Kion didn't look so like Simba. Now, as soon as I saw him, I just thought he looked like cub Simba, with minor differences, like the tuft, ear tags and spots. With closer inspection, I see more of Mufasa's nose, eyebrows and chin (similar at least), pointed lower eye thingys but still not much of Nala (or Nala's family) or Sarabi.

After not drawing TLK for so long, I'm not surprised that my 'cub' version looks terrible. And so un-cub like that I tried to make it more like a teen. But it mapped out the basics for my redesigning. Sarabi's head shape and eye lids, Muffy's chin, Nala's eyes.
Then I tried an adult version, with the help of actually referencing the characters.

I dropped Sarabi's eye lids for just Nala's eyes, gave him a large nose and chin like Mufasa, with a big nose bridge like Muffy and Sarabi, but added a sharper line. Nala's chin fuzz got mixed in, with a lot of fluffiness and some Simba shaped ears. After all this, I felt like he was now not the ultra unique mofo that everyone is complaining about and was now just a blend of family members, so I kept his strange mane colouring for the whole mane and gave him pointy cheek bones (<3)
I'm terrible at drawing manes, so I just did a basic one, with his backwards tuft continuing back further, with a little droopy bit like Simba's. And I kept the little orangy lock to droop in the front.
And finally, for the colouring, I tried to keep to the official image, except for the eye whites, although I edited the main fur colour to be a bit dustier, to bring Nala and Sarabi into it a bit. Maybe it's still too Simba-ish? Or maybe it's just the yellow+red colours that just remind us of out protaganist, however different the red and yellow are.

As always, I've written too much. I'm sorry, if you've even read this far.
