After the trio of Pinkie, Rainbow and Scootaloo were able to reach the Crystal Empire, they were met with a magic shield, protecting the crystal citizens from a possible invasion of infected ponies. Pinkie wasn't let inside. The Empire just couldn't risk it. Even if her infection stopped developing long time ago, she still looked like she had the virus. But Rainbow just couldn't leave her wife alone, behind the borders, and despite her pleads, stayed with her. Yet, they both were firm on Scootaloo entering the barrier. And so, the teenage filly did.

But it didn't mean that Scootaloo wouldn't try to come back to the mares that became a true family for her. She trained every day, just to be able to apply to become a ranger once she turned 18. The Rangers are a group of ponies who explore the dangerous zones and help bring any survivors to the safety of Crystal Empire. Scootaloo was very young, but talented and the Rangers really needed some new blood, so after a few attempts, Scootaloo was finally accepted into the group.

All this time Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie helped the Rangers and the Wonderbolts in some of their missions. In it all, the two ponies were just thankful to have each other and despite everything, their love only seemed to blossom more.

But when Scootaloo met Rainbow in the Rangers camp and Scootaloo proudly proclaimed that she became one, Rainbow was furious. The last thing she wanted is for her adopted sister to be on the frontline. Scootaloo was so young and Rainbow already saved her from a certain death once. How could she put herself in danger on purpose now?!
