Description     Rosaline lay in her bed, her stomach gurgling and growling, demanding nourishment. She was coming into the second trimester of her pregnancy, and the "strange cravings" phase finally hit her. Her parents still lived in the castle with her and her husband, but they were away on a sort of "retirement vacation" (retirement from the throne, that is) and her husband had been gone most of the day on political business, so Rosaline was left alone in the castle with only the house brownies and maids to tend to her fickle taste buds. She was craving something the entire day; something that wasn't a part of her normal diet, apparently. Even a whiff of the normal foods she ate was enough to make her stomach turn. For the entire day, she had subsisted off ginger cookies to help with the nausea and prenatal vitamins--then again, vitamins aren't really food.

I'm surprised Richard can sleep through this, Rosaline thought. Her husband was normally a light sleeper. Maybe he was just exhausted from the trip overseas. She rolled over, searching for a shoulder to nudge awake. She needed his opinion on what food she should try to eat; an assistant of sorts to help her solve her cravings if she was going to get any sleep.

pat-pat-pat-pat Rosaline only felt bed sheets. She sat up with a jolt and realized she was alone. Where did he go?...Of course, the first thought was the most embarrassing; he was woken up by her ravenous stomach and just got up and left to find some other place to sleep. They lived in a castle after all; there was no shortage of spare beds.

I'll find him and apologize. Rosaline sat up and began what she expected would be a long search for her husband, but was surprised to find that not far down the hall, the light was on in his office. And there was...such an amazing smell that permeated the hall. What was it? She had never smelled anything so amazing in her life. Her unborn child and her stomach seemed to agree. The rumblings were like cheers of encouragement; open the door and find the delicious sustenance that we so desperately need.

Rosaline knocked lightly on the door before opening the door and peeking inside to find Richard perched on his desk, eating that delicious something. "Hi." she greeted meekly. "What are you doing?"

"I couldn't sleep so I made some fried fish." Richard explained. "I know you don't like fish, so I decided to eat it in my office. Of course, I'll brush my teeth twice before I go back to bed so you don't smell it on my breath." He cut himself a slice with his fork and popped the bite in his mouth. "Sorry if I woke you up."

It was one of the few conditions of their marriage; Richard loved a variety of seafood while Rosaline couldn't even stand the smell, so if he wanted to enjoy one of his favorite foods, it needed to be away from his wife, and he needed to be careful to destroy any lingering evidence.

That last bite was the last straw; Rosaline and her unborn child could not stand for it another second. Ignoring the monstrous growl, Rosaline pointed a finger and in a regal tone, said, "Your child demands that you surrender the fried fish."

Richard's eyebrows cocked up in amusement. Pregnancy had a way of bringing out sides of his wife that he had never seen before. She's always been a little selfish, but she did it with class. This was pure, savage, pregnant instinct. How much could he tempt and tease it before she lost it? Yes; Richard was one of those guys. Having a cool-as-a-cucumber wife meant she was really sexy right before she exploded in anger or frustration. "Well, that's not very polite. Can my child say 'please'?"

"Richard, don't." Rosaline warned. "I am beyond hungry right now! My cravings are all weird right now! I've only eaten ginger cookies all day!"

"That's a shame," Richard nodded in mock sympathy before cutting off another slice of fish and bringing it to his lips, a little slower than normal, just to drag out his wife's torture. Oh, she was so adorable when her face flushed cherry red like that. Her pride was a fun toy to play with.

After a series of strangled noises, she finally muttered, "...please."

"Here you go." Rosaline snatched the plate out of her husband's hand and shoveled the fish into her mouth without even waiting for him to give her his fork. It was a little scary, but all that much more amusing. "I'll just make some more then."

"Ca' ya ma'e some mo' fo' me, pwease?" Rosaline requested with a mouth full of fish, little tears forming in the corners of her eyes. The fish was either just that delicious or she was just that hungry.

"Sure." This was going to be an interesting pregnancy. At least Richard could enjoy fish with his wife.

I looked up pregnancy memes out of boredom and this little scenario popped in my head. Interestingly, fish is one of Danni's favorite foods
