Description A Hammership sails through Wildspace, the crew confident and relaxed due to their ship's lethal arsenal.

Based on Spelljammer, a fantasy space setting for Dungeons and Dragons, which I *love*
The ship is one of the originals of the setting, mostly based on aquatic creatures, hence the looks. Modelled it in Rhino and rendered in Vue, with a little post work in Photoshop to add depth blur and improve colours.

It's *fantasy* space, hence folk can walk around on deck etc The odd looking "spoon" thing projecting from the rear turret is a catapult's business end.

Another well done picture. Ever think of doing a Triop? Hammerships are one of my three all time faves for potential vessels for heroes in SJ. Triop and Whaleships being the other two with Nautiloids and the neogi vessels behind it. And I hate to say it, I actually like the Spider Moon version of the Illithid dreadnought over the traditional. It just looks potentially nasties.

Well I want ot make ALL the Spelljammer ships...eventally! takes about a month to build each one in 3D, as I do full internals as welll, nowadays

Meh, Spider Moon was ye suckage! hehe! ships were waaaay too big, they were all like 400+ tonners :/

They introduced some neat new ideas though. True the application of the ideas proved to be underdone but I have some ideas now of my own, kind of combining SpellJammer with PlaneScape sans Sigil. A less combustible phlo replaces the Astral and the spheres don't all look like the crystal balls they do in traditional SJ as some of them look entirely different.

A few of the new ships in Spider Moon were interesting. And I have to say the Dreadnought, if you adapt the schematics of the original to what Paizo did, you have a ship that will make some folks tremble in fear.

Well, ti looks liek "astral jamming" may be in 4th ed, form what's been seen

Check my site to see the actual size of an illithid dreadnought, damned thing's a battleship!
the colour art doesn't come near the size of the deckplans!

Ugh! No 4e talk please! I'm holding at 3.5 and Paizo's Pathfinder RPG. Much closer to what I envision a ranger to be. Especially the one pirate character I created back in 2nd Ed. If you have access to Lords of Madness, there is a spell in there that Rangers can cast that I am very partial to. Of course my own ranger would prepare that spell if he knew he was going to encounter illithids, neogi and the like.

LOL, ok ok, I love it though Much easier on me as a DM.
Oh Lords of madness, along with the Illithiad, are two of my faves!!

When I was getting into 3E I may have sold my copy on e-bay. I got rid of my whole 2E books in a few lots. Although some of the books I'm beginning to regret doing that. Illithiad and Sea Devils being the primary two. Heck I still have this weird idea of making a psychic ranger class like the psychic warrior and lurk classes. The idea of beating the freaking mind flayers at their own game appeals to me.

Those books go for a lot on EBay, 30+ dollars at times, cause they are *awesome*.
Wish they had done more int hat vein as I love "fluff".
Mongoose Publishing did a lot of "Slayers guides" don't think they did on on illithids because they are "Intellectual property" of WOTC, bah!!

LOL I agree, damned sods are a pain in the arse!!
*fwoop! fwoop!*
"I eat your brain!"
*schlurp!*

"Bah, bastards!"
*puts on spikey poison covered helm!!*
"Try now!"

Heh, why do you think the buggers at WotC kept them as intellectual property? They don't deserve it. If you want to get right down to it, Chaosium should have rights to the suckers and the H.P.Lovecraft estate. I mean who do they think they're trying to fool? Mind Flayers are just miniature versions of Cthulhu himself.

They kept mind flayers, gityhanki, beholders, displacer beasts and aboleths, iirc as their "IP"
wlel actually Cthonians (mind flayer like) are from Brian Lumely's "The Burroers Beneath" book

mind flayers and aboleth are the only two I would grumble about and would need to redo if I wanted to sell anything, which eventually I might. Never got Beholders really but I did see something like them in a Japanese fantasy cartoon once.

They are such "icky" bady guys, lol, and aboleths have a big impact on 4th ed Forgotten Realms..which alas, I cannot stand

Beholders are kind of fun in a "fun to happen otother folk" sort of way

PhelanMahoney In reply to SilverbladeTE [2008-10-02 18:03:48 +0000 UTC]

They are both slave takers although mind flayers are less picky and generally do not alter their slaves except when they take a slave and make a new illithid out of him. Aboleth make their slaves skum at least they did. I'm not sure about how they did the mind flayers in Lords of Madness though. But this is partially because I actually liked how FFG used them in Dragonstar.

I just love a good story. Traditional fantasy, science fiction, a mixture of both, the escape is what is important to me. If a story or a game takes away from the crushing reality of the humdrum everyday world and lets you have a little bit of fun in a world or worlds of pure imagination then that's where I wanna be and go. Although I find science fantasy to be a lot of fun to think and write about.

I'm much more fussy about scifi than I am about fantasy, preffer good fun pulp, like "John Carter of Mars" to much of the angsty scifi stuff that's published now

It's been years since I actually read any science fiction. Nothing really interests me and I have a slightly conceited belief that I write better stories than most anything I have read so far with certain authors excluded. R.A.Salvatore and Stephen King being two writers I find enjoyable no matter what. Although I have read some nice stuff from Clive Barker lately.

Used ot love Stephen King, but gave up oh, 15+ years ago as I found him to lack the "Oomph" any more
Salvatore is great!
2 other good writers:
David Gemmell
Simon R Green
