Wow, I didn't know their ears floppped like that when they were little! I've never had a dog with standing-up ears, though, so I'm curious; when do their ears prick up? Is it just sort of out of the blue, or does it happen gradually?

...that's probably a really weird question. xD

Anyway, this puppy is just too cute! I love her pattern and her pose. You wouldn't happen to have named her after Bones, would you?

Not at all! Yep, baby Corgi ears flop, so do GSD's and a lot of other prick-eared dogs. They usually start standing anywhere between 6-12 weeks, and some dogs do it gradually, others are like Tempe and she woke up one morning and her light colored ear was straight up and never went back down. Bad bedhead. XD Sometimes it never happens though, if the dog's got soft ears. Sometimes with Cardis you have to gently tape their ears up (not cut! Just support with tape usually) and within a week they stand all on their own and get stronger with time.

And yes, yes she is named after Bones! I love that character in both the novels and the show.

Sweet, you don't think I'm a weirdo! 8D

I think Corgis are really adorable, and I'd love to have one someday so that's really useful to know, thank you! Both of my dogs are hunters, so they have floppy ears (Brittany Spaniel & German Shorthaired Pointer) so I've never owned a dog with standing ears.

I'm watching Bones right now, incidentally! It's one of my favorite shows, although sadly I've never read any of the novels. I'm not overly fond of her name, but I love the short version (although I spell Tempy with a y, for some reason ).

How many pets do you have? I was looking through your gallery and I saw Simon, Piper, Riley, Caleb, and Tempe, plus two cats (one was named Sophie, I can't remember the other). It took me awhile to realize that Riley and Piper were two different dogs. Either way, sounds like a full house (although they all seem really gifted when it comes to posing!). I think Simon and Caleb are my favorites, I really like their patterns, but Tempe is just way too cute! I wish I could take my dogs places like you do. ^^

*laughs* No, no weirdo at all! It's a valid question about the ears, lots of people ask me if we have to crop them to make them stand.

I have to say, we just call her the short version too. Or Tem-pest. I do like the long version of it for when she's in trouble, heh. It works well for that!

Let's see - right now, I have four dogs, Simon, Caleb, Tempe and Riley. Piper died of Lymphosarcoma back in Feb, and we miss her dearly. Piper and Riley are/were both Pembrokes, and yep, they looked a lot alike -- it's one thing that's nice about Cardigan Corgis, they're all different, for sure!

Five cats - Dusty, Sophie, Tristan, Parker and Lucas. Parker and Lucas are Korats, and thus my name here "silverbluecat."

And two horses, Captain and Blondie, a retired Arabian and my Paint mare.

It's a pretty full house, that's for sure! And aw, Simon and Caleb are pretty darn special. Temep is terribly cute, I agree -- and I sure do love taking my dogs places. We bop around a lot together, and it's a ton of fun. I'm really lucky to live in an area that's pretty dog friendly, that's for sure!

Tem-pest. Nice. xD

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that about Piper...sorry if I brought up any bad memories, or anything.

/Wow/ that is a lot of animals. And I thought two dogs was hard enough, ha! I want a house full of animals too, though, although I think I'll pass on the horses.

We don't have anywhere for my dogs to go around here (sadly) but I'm hoping to eventually live somewhere out in the country where they can have the run of the woods. We have to be really careful with letting my dogs out, since we live right next to the highway; Jake used to love going over it, and once he almost got hit by an 18-wheeler, according to the people that brought him back to us. We had an invisible fence installed around five months ago, and it's been amazing, but I'm always worried that he might just charge through it one day after a rabbit, or something.

Aww... baby Cardigan Corgi! No ears up yet, still little!

She's what they call a 'silver' merle - or a clear blue. Very light coat, her brindle points are severely restricted.

Usually by 12 weeks.
