Are they no longer called African wild dogs or is painted dog just another moniker for them? I grew up knowing them as African wild dogs. In fact, in a story I'm writing, I have an African wild dog (I call her an African dog because they aren't so wild in my story.) character.

Yes, they are still known as African wild dogs, and painted dog is just another name for them. I grew up knowing them as African wild dogs, but I've been hearing painted dog more often recently, hence me referring to them as painted dogs.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I don't know why they're called that. After all, nobody goes out there and put paint on them. LOL.
