Description On the left is a 1:12 or dollhouse scale halter, a custom order; on the right is a 1:9 scale halter, an eBay item that's already sold. Both are braided DMC floss with leather lace accents.

I used a four strand flat braid for all the straps except the throatlatch and lead, which are four strand round braid(the throatlatch braid was made smaller by splitting the floss lengths in half- the floss is actually made of six strands).

I'm not taking orders right now (I need to edit my description, whoops), but when I do, these are $30 ppd for both Traditional and Classic scale.

Do you have a tutorial on how to make these? I've been trying a four strand flat braid for years and never figured it out... And also, what materials do you use? Hope you don't mind me asking

I don't have one right now, but I will be working on one in the future. Four strand flat braid is tricky, I still haven't quite mastered it myself.

No problem asking, I use DMC floss for the braids, leather lace for the accents and attachments, and the hardware comes from Rio Rondo: [link] You can find DMC floss at craft stores, you can get lace at Rio Rondo.

I shoulda known the leather was from Rio Rondo, I love that store/website. And I actually have tons of DMC floss! I can't wait for a tutorial, it sure looks like you mastered the braid.

How do you make your leather pieces so neat looking? I can never find them thin enough to do this kind of stuff

I shave the lace down using an X-acto blade. Hope this helps!

Can you teach me how to make these or maybe simpler ones to start out with? I have over 50 Breyers with my sister 75 and they all need halters that aren't twisted up hair ties. :/

Thanks!

These are awesome! I've never seen a braided version before. =]
How do they go on/come off? Do the buckles on the top strap behind the ears actually work?

Yes, the crown buckles work. Though I made them so you didn't have to completely undo them, just loosen them a bit and slip them over the ears.

Thanks for the compliment!

Do you ever do saddles that aren't english? (Like cavalry saddles and whatnot?) I always love seeing your work, because it seems to realistic.

I tried a Western saddle once, but it turned out truly awful.
